Could someone tell me what these mean?

I've been out of the LJ loop for awhile, so I have no idea what these two words mean: STFU and PWN. I've seen them on several HP icons, but have no clue.

Merci beaucoup to any and all who assist me in learning their meanings.

pwn: gaming term for beating the pants off of an opponent. Somehow evolved from own, as in "I totally owned that guy at Halo 2!" Or, "Molly Weasley totally pwned Bellatrix!"

STFU: Acronym for Shut the Fuck Up. :D

Wow. I'm really showing my age and the fact that I don't play (never have) video games. I kind of guessed the second one, but wanted to the certain. The first I wouldn't have gotten in a million years.

Thanks!

The origin of "own" is because the P key is right next to the O key. Instant messenger stuff is full of typos, and the deliberate typo is a kind of nerd joke. You'll see people type "teh" and "pron" deliberately, too. In fact I've even heard people say "pron" out loud, which is kind of a double joke. And, of course, combine it with the other nerd-joke of substituting letters to make "pr0n".

A similar joke is to type "You ROCK!!11!!" to mimic the finger slipping off the shift key. The nerds then extend the joke to "You ROCK!!oneoneone!!!" and "You ROCK!!eleven!!" or "You ROCK!!eleventy-one!!!".

The actual nerds got tired of this years ago, but the world is full of p0z3rz.
