Proud to be an American

I am proud of this country. My country's citizenry has exercised its right to vote. Watching the returns tonight, I am amazed by the floods of people crowding into the public walking areas in Times Square. These are non-partisan groups. Democratic... Republican... Green... Whats even crazier: 85+ MILLION PEOPLE came out to vote.

That is absolutely crazy.

If estimates of our population right now are correct, 30% + of the nation voted today.

That is totally amazing.

And early estimates of the Chicago area were guessing turnout would be upwards of 80%. The number hasn't been solidified just yet, since turnout waned later presumably because so many people voted early to go to Obama's rally in Grant Park. But still... It's unheard of.

My god. This is the first time in 15 years I have felt so proud to be part of this nation.

I've been smiling all day. I still can't quite believe it.

I really believe that this guy is going to heal the rifts that the current administration willingly created, and bring us back from the brink of disastrous decisions fiscal, foreign relations, military, and energy.
