So old news: My JET interview went well, much better than last year. I could have done better, yes, but I have a good feeling about it.

Not all pet rats, but basically all the rats that come from pet stores because it's so contagious. Gilbert didn't have it before because he's a lab strain and was bred to be disease-resistant, as well as kept in a very controlled environment to make sure he didn't catch anything. Fritz must have brought the disease with him.

Yeah, that is probably what happened. I was reading up on how they managed to bred the disease-free lab strain of rats, it's kind of crazy. (sterile cesarean sections were apparently the eventual solution) Though apparently there's some people out there trying to do the same for pet shop rats as well, but that's probably a fairly impossible task just given the sheer battle of numbers there.
