So I'm about a month into Japan and things are going pretty all right. My schools are mostly stabilizing into manageable ways. I still dislike some more than others, but I don't think that will ever change. At least now I've found a way of dealing with the schools that I dislike slightly more than the others ( Read more... )

Ahhh, life decisions. Maybe things will get more social the more time you spend in JET and the more people you meet there? Might make things worthwhile in the end to spend two years.

As far as visiting goes, nothing has been readily determined yet. It'll either be late spring (after Detour) or early fall (September/October). Leaning towards the latter I think.

Yeah, I should meet more people at the mid-year conference thingie at the end of the month, and I think the locals I work with should have more free time after JLPT is done in December, so I'm waiting before making a final judgment on the social scene, because I do think that atmosphere is changing. It's just lots of things on my mind.

Also just keep me in the loop whenever you guys finalize stuff so I can prepare accordingly!

If you stay a second year, is there a possibility that you might be transferred to a place that has more stuff/places you could spontaneously go see with people? That might help? I dunno; I see the pros and cons of your options.

On the topic of unrelated stuff, might one be so bold as to ask if holiday cards are send-able this year?

I'm only going to get transferred to a different location next year if I request a change in position. If I stick with this position, I can stick around in the same place. And it's not like there's a lack of things to do! Just...a lack of people to do things WITH.

Christmas cards are totally a-okay! Just give me an e-mail address that I can send my mailing address to.

I wasn't sure if the reason why the other JET people were all "studyTVstudyTV" was because there wasn't a lot to do, but that makes sense. That sucks for you. :(

Have sent you a PM.

/HUGS!!!!

When I am less busy and running to class, we should talk about Japan because I'm very curious about how you're going about things and how you're dealing with everything. I get what you mean about being in a social setting you're not comfortable with; and I hope it gets better, because that can improve things by a whole lot, especially when you're in a new setting.

Yeah, there's definitely a lot of opportunity for growth! It's just every so often moodswings strike and I am like "Ugh I HAVE HAD ENOUGH, I AM GROWN UP NOW SEND ME BACK." Only I realize that is...not very grown up at all.
