A Picture Is Worth A Thousand Words

Jun 30, 2009 20:20

We've all heard the old saying that a picture is worth a thousand words. Lately I've been mentioning how hot and dry it has been. We set new record highs for something like 10 consecutive days before a little rain cooled us off today. We'll be back in triple digit temperatures again in two days, so the welcome break won't last.

Hot hot and how dry?  ( Read more... )

my pond is no where near that big but it dried up and my fish died. I was a bit heartbroken when I figured this out.

My neighbor has a big pond. Well, I should say big hole in the ground.

Yeah, it's tragic. I feel for the farmers with livestock.

My home state of South Australia has been under much the same conditions. It's heartbreaking to see trees dying. You have my sympathy :-( There's no joy to be had in breaking records when they're for something as hideous as days without rain, or days over 100 (in your funny scale LOL)

Yes, we Americans don't have the common sense to use the metric system. We'd rather try to figure out how many ounces in a cup (8), how many cups in a pint (2), how many pints per quart (2), how many quarts per gallon 4), how many feet per mile (5,280), etc. So we're dumb and happy with 32 is freezing and 212 is boiling rather than making it easy...0 is freezing and 100 is boiling!

Yeah, it's an American thing. Try to convince an American the metric system is easier and it's like speaking Greek to a Russian. They don't understand it at all!

Yikes. You're in as bad a shape as we are.

We have a lake that is normally very popular for boating. Right now, the boat ramps are 20 feet from the water, so you can't get the boat to the water.

Nice, eh?

Hmm, that pic is very familiar to what we here in Queensland were looking at last summer. It has all changed now as we have had heaps of heavy rain to fill our dams to about 60% but it was devastating at the time. I hope you get some rain real soon but you too may have to wait until after your summer. Hope not :)

I suspect we'll have a very hot and very dry summer. I hope not, but it would be delusional to expect otherwise. We've had an unusually warm year right from the start. We had no winter to speak of.

What a sad picture. Our snow pack up here gets smaller and smaller each year, which means less run off to fill the reservoirs.
