OMG Jim, I read this with tears in my eyes and they were tears for you the person who has endured so much pain. As a parent I too had a son nearing the big 50 now who at 17 or 18 decided to grow his hair long, bought a motorbike, got tattoos, in fact he sounded so similar to yourself back then
( ... )
I read this the other day after you wrote it and I've been thinking about it sense. It felt weird to mention it today when I talked to you so I didn't. but I wanted you to know that I had read it. For me it hits home quite a bit with my own parents. My mom came around as I was older, and sadly now I no longer have the chance to confront her on some of the things that I wish I could. My father is the still bad though. I've cut him out a few times over the years, but I still keep trying. All of it definitely has a huge effect on who I am as a person, it's a frequent topic of discussion between D and I. And he's cut out his entire family, so yeah, I guess we know where you're coming from. I'm sorry you've gone through this your whole life, but if you ever need to talk about it I'm here. really.
I can only assume you're talking about your parents. It's so sad that after all this time, you still have to deal with these issues that should never even be issues in the first place.
I can totally understand how you can't take it anymore and have to do what needs to be done to preserve your sanity.
