It occurred to me yesterday as Becci and I were driving around Auburn that it was my density ... I mean my destiny that brought me to Auburn. Let me explain - Auburn is the home of the Auburn, Cord, Duesenberg Museum. Those are three names of fancy automobiles manufactured in Auburn, IN during the 1940's. Dude. Did you actually talk to Harold Ramis and ask him if the Duesenberg was the inspiration for that phrase or do you think its more likely that he simply employed a common term without thinking about its origin?

Dude, I never said Harold Ramis was inspired by Duesenberg's. I'm sure the phrase was in use long before Groundhog Day. I simply meant that the Deusenberg was the car behind the phrase.

Plus, why would someone refer to stepping into a puddle (which has a negative connotation) as a Duesy (which apparently has a positive connotation)? I'm pretty sure if you look up the script you will find that its not spelled that way.

Not to say that you're destiny doesn't lie in Auburn, but that might not be the reason.

Why does their have to be a positive or negative connotation? Maybe the expression communicates the large size of what it's applied to. Like Phil's first step from the curb was a BIG hole in the road. Saying it's a duesy would be like saying "that's a big drop off in front of you."
