Summary: Wally tries to be romantic.
It started off as per usual enough in the beginning of their relationship. Even Bruce had to admit that.
A super-fast kiss between missions that no one had noticed (or if J'onn did, at least, he knew better than to say), a one sentence long e-mail via the Watch Tower's secured intranet (filled with more emoticons than words), a sticky note left on his coffee mug that wasn't there a second ago (there was a smiley face on it). Sweet, little things like that that, while somewhat romantic in the beginning, made Bruce feel as if he was in high school as time drew on.
The final nail in the coffin, so to speak, that solidified this was the "mysterious" yellow and red bouquet of roses. They were one more than a full dozen and the last one, of course, was fake.
His current secretary twittered over how sweet the gesture was and what a powerful meaning the new special person in Mr.Wayne's life must be! Bruce, reluctantly agreed, and decidedly neglected to tell the imaginative woman the fact that the bouquet had less to do with hidden meaning and was probably picked out because of the pretty colours.
Wally liked bright, shiny things, after all. Any hidden meaning was probably just a bonus.
Still, Bruce left them there on his desk where one by one they withered and faded, except for the last. It wasn't until he threw out the dead ones that he realized the thirteenth rose had an intricate, painstakingly rendered design of the Bat symbol and the Flash insignia intertwined with one another across the stem. Hidden meaning, indeed.
He brought it home that night.
"Romantic, huh?", a smug voice asked, as soon as he walked into the cave.
Bruce, not even bothering to look up (Wally was in his usual seat, he knew, right underneath the Tyrannosaurus statue), suppressed the pull of a smile at hearing his lover's voice, and rolled his eyes.
"Like a teenage boy," he stated and promptly put the rose in an empty vase.
"Hey!"
"I'm not stopping you."
Wally beamed and decided not to cancel the tomorrow's "secret" delivery. Bruce allowed it, but only because it would be no hardship to convince Wally to eat most of them. Or so that's what he told himself.
