plans for Spring quarter

So, I'm trying to figure out what courses to take next quarter (registration opens in about a week). There's two CSE classes that I'm definitely taking (322 - formal models, and 378 - machine architecture & assembly language), but that's only seven credits (I should be at 15-16 credits ( Read more... )

Drama 101? Couldn't you use your life in the Seagoth crowd as real life credit? Then you'd have more time to be social and see more drama.

Linguistics is nifty, although I'm not sure what they'll cover in a course with that label...

Please forgive me for not responding to everything. But Greek/Roman mythology class... I took something similar for my first freshman semester at UC Berkeley, which was only offered to high-english scoring students. I was full math and science, which typically score poorly in english-type classes - I had to fight to get into the class, but I knew it would be a sleeper, because as a child I loved the Greek and Roman stories and started demanding that I get to order them on the book order forms even when they were supposed to be above my level. Anyway, I got either a B+ or A- (I honestly forget) from the college course just from showing up for about 3/4 of the classes and staying awake for maybe half of those. So, if you know your Greek and Roman myths anywhere near as well as I knew mine, you're not overdoing things at all; that class time is just potential nap time.

You should take the "What kind of oagan are you?" just for kicks, because I'd like to see what at least one of my friends comes up as! ;P

This is part of my thought -- I know a fair amount about the mythology. Of course, I also don't want to take a class that will end up boring me... 'cause then I won't be motivated to get the paper(s) written (and I'm pretty sure there will be some). But the linguistics class interests me quite a bit, and it's at the same time as the mythology class.... decisions, decisions. :)

I so completely hated taking LING 200 fall quarter. Sure, it's a pretty easy way to kill VLPA creds for a decent grade, but to me, the class was just a random mishmash of unrelated topics in communication, presented in a touchy-feely "nobody is right when it comes to proper grammar" kind of way.

My frustration was likely compounded by taking Latin in the same quarter, where proper syntax and grammar are key to communication, but I still feel that class was the biggest waste of time I have encountered in college.

That's good to know -- doesn't sound like what I'd pictured for linguistics, so I think I need to re-evaluate that... Thanks for the info. :)

My vote would be for ling, but only from observations made from talking with linguists (I focused on Psych as my minor, didn't take any ling classes ( ... )
