Journal: Dusty and full of tumbleweeds. Who let these things in here anyhow?? I guess I need to do a little more upkeep...
So, yeah. It's been a while. My last real post was at the start of Spring quarter. Spring quarter didn't go so well, I bit off way more than I could chew and suffered quite a bit from overwork and stress reaction... but I did manage to pass all my classes (though just barely for the class where I accidentally slept through the final...).
I also took classes summer quarter, which went a bit better. (It is worth noting, however, that statistics classes are difficult, not because the subject is hard, but because it is so excruciatingly dull that paying attention takes prodigious effort. Still, I managed to do fairly well, so I shouldn't complain too much.)
I'm currently almost a month into Fall quarter, taking Compiler Construction (abstract syntax trees are fun!), Artificial Intelligence (which has not had all that much intelligence involved so far), an Intro to Archaeology class just for fun, and "Conversational German Through Film" (Cheesy tv-ish german language lessons from the late 50s / early 60s, and discussion thereof -- but it's an easy 2 credits and a chance to use some of my very rusty German).
Some of you may notice that my expected graduation date is a bit later than what I've been saying for the past while. This is actually not a sign of anything bad -- quite the contrary, in fact. I've just been accepted for a six month co-op/internship program for winter/spring quarters, so my last two quarters of classes will be next school year. I don't have specifics on what I'll be doing at the internship yet (this is a brand new, evolving situation), but it's involved with the email back-end for a well-known wireless device.
Just before this quarter started,
jadine and I went to Hawai'i again. Oh yeah, um, the first time also happened after my last substantive post, so, uh, we've been to Hawai'i a couple of times. Between the two trips, we've seen fair chunks of three islands (Big Island, Maui, Kauai). While I've never been thrilled with the stereotypical tropical vacation, volcanoes!!! Driving around (and into) Kilauea was very cool, even if we didn't get much active flow visibility. Plus, while I don't care for the heat at all, we've discovered that snorkeling in coral reefs among all the fishies is quite fun, and Hawai'i has some really interesting ecological and anthropological/cultural aspects. (Maui was way more touristy than I care for, though...) At some point I may even get around to uploading some pictures.
There's other things going on, too, but this is enough for one post, I think. More will be forthcoming soon (I hope).
