Holiday celebrations

"Remember, remember, the fifth of November,
The gunpowder treason and plot..."

All I can say is, those Brits sure know how to hold a grudge. :)

I should watch V for Vendetta to celebrate.

That is one thing that always confused me:

V was imitating a man known for attempting to assasinate an entire government to establish a Catholic theocracy so that he could take down an oppresive theocracy.

I know, I am over analysing it.

It's not like V (or Alan Moore) is the only one to selectively reinterpret historical events in order to promote one's own point of view.

But yeah, whatever V may have thought/said, Guy Fawkes sure wasn't much of an anarchist. But why let mere facts get in the way of a good story (or polemical)??

There are fireworks going off in every direction right now. I can see them exploding over buildings, behind trees, down the road, and every which way. Some of the ones going off to the north of us looked like the Blitz all over again. Needless to say, it's pretty cool.

As my dear friend gislebertus once said, you should celebrate by kicking an English Protestant in the junk.

One of my teammates is a pyrotechnics guy on the side, and happens to be in a suburb of London. He regularly makes a big bonfire+fireworks display. Things got... interesting this year. Here is his account ( ... )
