I am in love with this dog at the shelter. I have been waiting for him to become available for adoption. Now he's available but all I can think of is vet bills if he gets sick and who will babysit him if we travel. He's the cutest and sweetest though.

What should I do? Are they worth it? Do any of you regret getting a dog?

Worth it 100 percent.

The main reason why I got patti was because my sister lives near by and we agreed to watch each other's animals. And because I wanted my own dog for as long as I could remember.

we don't have a dog, but we had no money when we got our cat. we'd have more money if we didn't have him. but I don't regret it for a minute. having a pet has made me take better care of myself, and be happier at home, and happier in general.

i've never owned a dog, though i live with two and help take care of them when my brother and my other roommate travel. i also have two cats, and i used to have three. they're a pain in the ass sometimes but i love them so much. averaging out the cost of litter, food, vet stuff, etc., it probably costs me about $100 per month to take care of them. there are a lot of other ways i can think of to spend $100/month that would bring me way less pleasure.

i just realized this is similar to my internal debate about having a kid. how will i pay for it and who will take care of it when i'm at work? for now i'll stick with cats heh.
