Questioning the universe....

Dec 02, 2010 12:34

I'm in the process of changing the email address associated with my LJ account because I don't want any of my family to accidently stumble across any LJ related stuff. It occurs to me that the fact that such a huge part of my life  is secret from all who know me - makes me somewhat strange ( Read more... )

Not at all. When I changed my header to a kind of suggestive Harry/Draco I knew that I would have to be more careful with my husband stumbling on it. My friends and family know not to make "gay" jokes around me because I always speak up about it (to live and let live) but they have no idea that I actually more than just support it - that I find that my best forms of entertainment actually surround slash.

They know of my love for fanfiction/ know I write it but have no idea that I am a bonifide slasher. If I were to find a like minded RL friend that enjoyed this I could share, but I would not want to spend my time constantly defending why I like what I like (I have a very nasty temper)with the friends and family.... but I'm sure that people we know keep their kinks a secret from us too. So we like boys who likes boys... there are a lot of people like us out there :D

You situation sounds almost exactly like mine. My husband would be EXTREMELY UPSET to find out that I like slash as much as I do or that I'm as involved in it as I am. He knows that I read some fanfic (though he likes to maintain plausible deniability so we never talk about it or acknowledge it in any way). But he has no idea of the content.
I never thought about other people I know keeping 'kinky' secrets. :D Guess I'm not as 'different' as I thought.
Thanks

You're not as weird as you think you are; I'm the same way. No one in RL knows the name of my LJ, and I have a separate email account for it, too.

I keep fandom and rl very separate, for my own peace of mind, and I don't feel guilty about it at all. Neither should you. Do what you must so YOU'RE comfortable, and don't worry about the rest.

Very sound advice, thank you. Glad to know I'm not the only one who keeps LJ and RL totally separate - and apart.

What Jae said. No one (except my sister, who introduced me to LJ) knows. NO ONE. I shudder to think of how my friends & family would react. And frankly, I, like chibidraco, would not want to constantly defend my choices.

Its interesting that three of my favorite authors have answered my question.

:D *hugs you all*.

I'm feeling a lot more comfortable about maintaining my separate identity. Not that I could give it up - but its always nice to know you're not alone.
Thanks.

*waves* I just stopped by to say Hi and check out "who you are", so to speak, after you recently commented at my LJ. After reading this post of yours, I HAD TO respond ( ... )

Thank you so much for commenting. It is very lonely and I must admit it takes a bit of work on my part to keep my 'secret.' BUT I love it and am unwilling to give it up right now. Its very nice to know that though I am now doubt a bit weird (just enough to be interesting of course :D) ... I'm in excellent company.)
