You have to remember that there are nut jobs everywhere on the political spectrum, and they are unfortunately the ones who are most likely to show up at events with crazy signs, and also the most likely to get media coverage because, well, people like to gawk at their crazy signs.

I'm not entirely sure that the town hall format is a good way to have debate, any ways. It's pretty inevitable that it's just going to end with polarized opposites screaming at each other. The internet is a far better way of disseminating information.
