Patients returning to the UK after having undergone surgery in India or Pakistan found to be harboring a bacterial mutation allowing any bacterium to become antibiotic resistant. Time to ban the practice of medical tourism.

I never thought it was a good idea to start with. Insurance companies are trying to cheap out and they always cause more problems than they solve.

Usually, "medical tourism" is done by people who are paying their own money. That's why much of it is cosmetic surgery (which insurance doesn't cover). I'm sure the insurance companies would like to ship people to India to have their appendixes removed, but they haven't dared to require it yet.

As for antibiotics, there's not much money in them, so the drug companies aren't motivated to find them. Since we all benefit from new antibiotics, it's a good target for government financing.
