Lolita watching Lolita

Nov 06, 2009 14:21

I've read the novel so it's about time I watch it. I should get the Kubrick version too but... yeah! I really want Dolores' sailor outfit here to wear to the beach ;_; I need to recreate it! Sailor collar, but with shorts, but open at the back and closed up the front. perfect. Not sure if I can actually sew it though? =(

I like that movie version. Whenever I set out to watch the Kubrick version I'm put off by the black and white

Out of the all the movies on at the cinema right now Whip It is pretty good

The black and white can be daunting at times.. but one of my favourite old b/w movies is Double Indemnity. hilarious, teh guy always just calls the girl baby. She's mad at him and hes just like, Shut up baby! *kiss* hahah

Yeah, the Ellen page/drew barrymore one. I'd like to check it outttt.

That oufit is really cute. If it came with a back and was pink or black, I'd snatch that up straight away. LOLOLOLOL

I kinda want to see Lolita as well. I don't really get the whole story (as in, the arguement everyone uses on why lolita fashion isn't like the book) so I think I need to educate myself about it. haha

It doesn't look that difficult. Just make a halterneck and attach the sailor collar to the neckline. Those tieback haltertops were popular on dresses in the 80's. It's just the front panel of the bodice of a halter with two tie strips attached to the sides. The shorts could be separate or attached only on the front half, make a side zip rather than a front fly.

Sounds good. What kind of material? I want it to be pretty durable (beach~~). I kinda suck at pants, hardcore, I need a pattern. :(

I would have said polyester but rewatching it I'm thinking they used cotton cause it's all creasy. If you got the right weight of it cotton or rayon would probably be best so it's not gross if you sweat in it.

I love the transitions between the scenes, so good. Great performance. Though, I figured out the twist near the start (maybe I'm just sick?). The antagonists story as to why he imprisoned Dae-su was really interesting though, especially at the end when he lets go of her on the bridge.

I am a film student so I really need to have more viewing under my belt ;) The Royal Tenenbaums left me feeling really heavy-hearted. Sad film. Wes sure does love family films.

Imaginarium..well, the narrative is absolutely shit, if you can even say there is a real story there. But the visual effects and art direction were fantastic. Lily Cole looks amazing, I want all her outfits.. And the performances of Ledger/Law/Depp/Farrel as one character were seamless. So, it was worth seeing for that part.

Darjeeling was awesome. It makes me wish I had more/better siblings. xD
