It seems I've gone about posting the photos and commentary about my NYC trip in haphazard order. Now, I'm going back to the beginning. Let me tell you, I was so excited I started snapping pictures as soon as I got off the plane. Yep, as touristy as a person can get...

Erie! I grew up in a very small town, Ridgway, near the Allegheny National Forest. No family left there now, alas, but it was my father's hometown. Still family in the area, but none in the town itself. I haven't been back in several years now.

Yes Erie my dad's family is still there, well a few of them. He had 10 brothers and a sisters. So two uncles and my aunt are still alive--his family tend to live to almost 100.

I Love Pa and stop everything I go to visit my brothers in Delaware.

In the Midwest now but heart is still back there.

They had families big back then, didn't they? There were 11 all told in my father's family, he was third youngest; that generation is gone now. Impressive that you still have 3 living from that generation.

I still love PA a lot, too, when I say "home", I usually mean PA, despite having lived in TN for 25 years.

Wonderful pics, again! Grand Central... OMG! I'm kind of addict to subways, as a tourist, of course...

Sue practically had to drag me out of Grand Central, because I wanted to linger forever. It's absolutely beautiful.

The trains are crowded, of course, but most riders were courteous. And NYC apparently allows buskers on trains; we were treated to performers several times. My niece says there are acrobats who perform on her train; she's always worried she's going to get kicked sometime.

Glad you had a good time on your trip. I worked in the city for years and went to college for my MA there. ?And of course, we visit at least every month or two, especially Christmas.

So what was your overall impression?

I LOVED Manhattan. So much energy and excitement, beautiful architecture, so many pockets of natural peace and serenity, people were generally very courteous. I loved the different areas, because they are so different and unique. I think I enjoyed the Village and East Village the most, but all of it, really. More to see and do than anyone could take in in an entire lifetime. Can't wait to go back.

The Oyster Bar is great fun; excellent clam chowder and oysters of course... you have to pick the right time though, because when it's packed it is noisy, the sound just bounces off the tiles. Maybe we should arrange an MFU meet-up there next time you come. The whole building is so majestic, we really don't build spaces like that any more.

Lunch at the Oyster Bar sounds perfect to me. Good to know about the noise, though. I could have spent hours wandering through the terminal, majestic is a good word for it.
