The information is in the material one accesses online for unemployment benefits, and yesterday I filed my unemployment status with VT and was told the same thing. Since churches (and synagogues) are tax-exempt - 501(c)3 -they don't pay unemployment taxes, so my wages aren't reported. They do pay the employers share of FICA.

Amazing what one learns, isn't it?

I haven't been unemployed for almost a decade and now I'm in a region where there are no jobs unless I drive a long ways.

Waitaminnit... Does that apply to all 501c3s? Like if you were working for any other nonprofit org? I could have sworn when I worked for the IEEE (considered a non-profit) I was eligible...

*HUGS* Good luck, hon!

They don't have to, but my understanding is that *some* do pay in - which makes their employees eligible. Kinda rare, I suspect.

I am truly sorry to hear that.

I didn't know about the unemployment but since they are tax exempt, I guess I can see it. It still sucks though IMHO.
