[Alerted by the sounds of sirens, Dug had sped down from his dorm and into the entrance hall of Joe West Hall. He's looking around, warily, low growls emanating from his throat, intermingled with the occasional whimper. He knows he must not leave the hall, but he's worried. People are missing and he feels helpless. He wants to help.]... I wish I ( Read more... )

[He'd been told that it was Academy procedure, that such rules were in place for good reason. But to stand by and do nothing felt wrong to Woody, especially when there were students missing. The Academy had no right to turn its back on them. The danger that accompanied the Mists presence should have given them even more incentive to find those who'd gone missing; it was their job to insure the safety of both students and staff. To give up on them and hope for the best was outrageous. It sentenced the pair to a fate they did not deserve ( ... )

[Dug's sensitive state allowed him to immediately sense when someone was approaching - he was, quite literally, in a state of constant alert, after all. He turned around and spotted the potted plant from which the noise came from. Sniffing the air a little, Dug wandered over and peered behind the potted plant]

Hi there. I know you.

[Woody gave a cry of surprise, having not expected to be spotted so easily. He'd been so sure he hadn't been followed maybe overconfidence had left him blind. The cowboy stumbled back a few steps, arms flailing to regain balance but met no such fortune. Instead, he tumbled to the floor where he quickly sat up and looked for the source of the voice he had heard. Finding none, Woody's eyes fell on the dog before him. From what he could tell they seemed friendly. The cowboy smiled and held out his hand to show the dog he meant no harm.]

Well hey there, boy. What are you doing here?

[Dug sniffed at Woody's hand with interest and nodded]

You helped me carry those acorns. Boy, I do not like eating the acorns usually but when I was a squirrel they sure were delicious! What are you? Are you a small human? You do not smell like a human. I like you. Can we be friends?

AAGGHH! [It spoke! The dog... The dog spoke! Eyes wide, Woody quickly shuffled back until he could no more. His back pressed against the wall, the sheriff stared at the canine in astonishment.] You... You... !

[Unfortunately for Dug, much of what he said fell on deaf ears, Woody too taken back by his ability to talk to fully process what he was saying.] Wha- what? Squirrels? Ah, n- no, I'm not actually... Well, I...

[Dug watches Woody with little reaction to the small man's outburst, Dug's tongue lolling out as he pants away happily.]

My name is Dug. My old Master whoisnowdead made me this collar so that I may speak.

Who are you? You seem a little small to be a human.

Collar? [Woody's eyed travelled to the device in question, his curiosity urging him to reach out and fiddle with it's nobs. However, he refrained from doing so.

The dog, Dug, did not seem like much of a threat. In fact, he appeared friendlier than ever. If anything, the cowboy found it impossible not to reaching out and pat the dog on the head.]

That's because I'm not human. [He smiled, incapable of restraining himself from patting any longer] Howdy. I'm Woody, one of the schools guidance counselor's.

My collar is very special for it allows me to speak to humans, oh yes!

[Dug proudly displays his collar whilst attempting to look noble at the same time. It works quite well until a bit of drool slides out of his open mouth and the whole image turns into a derp-fest.]

I am very happy to meet you, Woody.

[His face drops a little as if he's suddenly remembered something very bad]

But, oh boy.. I am sad right now. And I am very worried, oh yes I am.

[He lets out a little sigh and flops down onto the floor beside Woody, his head resting on his furry paws.]

I am worried about the missing students. I want to help find them but I was told that I am not allowed to leave the hall.

[His smile having faded, Woody continued to pat Dug in hope of comforting him, if even a little.] Yeah, I'm worried about 'em too... [Since the disappearance of two of it's students, the Academy had done nothing successful other than rub him the wrong way. They should have been out there looking for those kids, not hiding away inside.]

... They didn't say anything about you leaving with a 'buddy' did they?

[Dug continues to mope a little and sigh every now and then as he listens to Woody. What the Guidance Counsellor is saying makes a lot of sense to Dug but.. there's just one teensy weensy problem..]

But I do not have a "buddy", Woody. I was not assigned one yet.

[Moar sighs]

Really? Oh boy, OH BOY!

[He jumps up and barks excitedly.]

Thank you, Woody! We will find the missing students and make everyone happy again and receive many pettings!

[He can't help but laugh.] Now we shouldn't get ahead of ourselves here... But we'll do our best.
