I. Snails

My snails have spent the last two days either mating or conducting a very slow-motion fight over who gets to wrap their entire body around what's left of the cuttlefish bone. Since I already have one clutch of eggs that I have no idea what to do with, I'm hoping it's the latter.

You don't say! Wow, you'd think in 22 years of being a Jew I'd have learned that.

Of course I know that. That's why the patisserie is guaranteed to be closed friday evening. Hence my frustration.

Really! Wow, you'd think that in 22 years you'd learn not ot ask questions you don't want an answer to.

I'd interpreted the question as: who would put the Sabath during a period wherein one is most likely to crave pastries? Imagine if the Sabath started Sunday night? You'd get to skip Mondays, everyone would be happy, and then one could get ones pastries during ones cravings...

But what if that caused one to crave pastries on Sunday night? What if ones pastry craving were an expression of ones inner contraryness?

The two questions may be equally valid, but the first one is a lot easier to answer ("Because it's shabbes. Duh.") than the second one.

Of course it's entirely possible, even likely, that I just *notice* my cravings more on Friday nights than other times because that's when I don't get to satisfy them.

On the other hand, if what you really want is a practical solution to your problem, rather than an explanation, then you could try to train yourself to buy cookies on Thursdays. Or lobby the proprietors to engage a staff of shabbes goyim to keep the place open all week.
