confessions pt. 1

my mom got me this thing the other day. it's a little dangly frame thing, she says she's going to frame it with pictures of me and her. it says "a daughter is a little girl who grows up to be a friend." and it made me really, really happy, but at the same time it was kinda bittersweet because i don't think she'll want to be my friend when i'm older

i disappointed both parents in my own way. it's not a fun feeling, but ultimately it's one both parties need to take steps to get over. having children isn't about crafting a person, it's about creating and giving life to a new soul. or something else all metaphysical and stuff. seriously though, it's the way of the world. growing up is about finding yourself, not following directions. i mean, it could be about the latter, but as anyone who has ever used map quest knows, you can't trust even the "experts" to give you the specific landmarks to aim for.

and my mom got over it. i pretty much took the idea she had of "daughter" and threw it in the trash, without intending to of course, and things were rough, but we've each grown up a bit and accepted that you can't control what other people feel/do, even family.
