[ There’s a soft click as Esmeralda switches the communicator on, and a few moments of silence as she contemplates it wonderingly - and admiringly! She has never seen technology like this before, but she is completely fascinated. ]

If the light is on, you can see me and hear my voice, right?

[ She examines the device, murmuring to herself sotto ( Read more... )

[sdalfkjasoidgnalweirjodsknfawfsd ESME

There is a scraggly tomcat that is meowing really REALLY loudly and practically sprinting across the grass to where he hears your voice coming from, and then he bumps against your leg, purring and meowing up a storm while rubbing up against you.

...Also, now that it's still, it seems to be limping. And that sprint made it start bleeding through the bandages wrapped around its body and foreleg.

Don't get him wrong, Esme, he expects a full explanation about why you're here but sdfilknasdfoiwenfr you're HERE!]

[ The meowing catches her attention first, and while she's not entirely sure what she's done to merit the cat's favor (a cat does not bestow such a gift lightly) she instinctively reaches out to him, scratching him gently under his little kitty chin and cooing softly.

Now that she can inspect him up close, her eyes widen worriedly - the cat is covered in bandages, which badly need changing. She sits down beside him, holding her arms out to him invitingly, her voice soft and welcoming. ]

You poor little thing - where in the world have you come from?

[He's absolutely chattering her ear off in kitty purr/meow language, but unfortunately, she can't understand that. He explains that he's Clopin and he's been turned into a cat and he's so happy to see a gypsy and why the hell is he even trying it's not like you can understand him anyway but goddamn it you're HERE

He ignores the tearing pain in his leg--he's going to need new stitches--and leaps to her, standing on his hind legs and putting his forepaws on her shoulders so he can properly lick her face. Had he been human, he'd have settled for a hug and kissing her cheeks, but he has long since surrendered to catlike behavior and Esme's face is gonna get a thorough licking.

He has no shame. :| ]

[ In spite of his pitiable condition, Esme can't help but smile at the cat's oh so vocal welcome - in another moment he'll be talking!

She receives the pounce with a delighted laugh, wrapping her arms gently around the cat's frame so he doesn't lose his balance and hurt himself further. Once her face has been thoroughly licked, she leans forward to place a kiss on the tip of his teensy nose. ]

How could a darling like you ever have come by those wounds, hmm?

[ She assess the situation quickly - those bandages are going to have to come off, now, and if the cuts are as deep as she suspects they are, they're going to have to be stitched. Kitty, what has the world done to you? ]

I hope there isn't someone waiting for you, little one, because you're going to have to come with me.

[ She gives him a stern look. ]

No arguments. It's decided.

[ She feels fairly certain there won't be a frantic owner searching for him, though, because if he did belong to someone, his owner would have taken care of him in the first place. ]

[ She knows that name! She reaches for the communicator, knocks it off the desk in her haste, scrambles to snatch it off the floor, but still manages to look poised and unflustered when she holds it up again. ]

Your music teacher's name is Clopin?

Yeah. He's kinda nuts, but pretty good.

He wouldn't happen to have an earring in one ear and an unforgettable tenor voice, would he?

[...Princess isn't sure if she likes that smile. All the same...]

I would be more than happy to help. Where do you need to go?

[ She smiles gratefully, fleetingly, as her original question is addressed, before her expression turns thoughtful ]

Oh, anywhere, I suppose. I am completely new and completely unfamiliar...with just about everything, really.

What's the one thing every new person ought to know?

Probably that the headmaster has an awful sense of humor.

[...She's not kidding.] If I were you, I'd worry more about useless drills and inexplicable magic than anything else.

Also, the ice patch in the middle of the quad. Avoid that.

That is actually incredibly helpful, thank you.

[ She pauses, wondering why the Academy would have drills that were useless, but inwardly marvels that this is the second time someone has brought up magic - real magic, presumably]

That sounds like it has a story behind it. Probably an interesting one, too.

Yeah, the communicators are pretty tricky at first, but you'll get the hang of them eventually.

*God knows this over a thousand-year old gargoyle did, who is still learning new things about this mostly human world.*

[She nods in agreement. She's already half in love with this new technology, though, and so she smiles.]

They're wonderful!

[Also, hello, new person.]

I'm Esmeralda. It's nice to meet you, monsieur...?

Name's Brooklyn! Nice to meet you Esmeralda!

*He pauses*

You're from France! Right? Oh man, what's it like there?

Mais oui!

[Oh, Brooklyn, you picked the right subject. Any opportunity to talk about home is a welcome one.]

It's very beautiful but very crowded - well, Paris is, at least. There is never a dull moment, but the city never loses its charm. And once you've tried the food, you will spend the rest of your life missing it.

May I ask where you're from?

[Hey, pretty lady. Kronk can comport himself with total grace with pretty women. He promises.]

I dunno what you just said, but I've got a pretty good sense of direction!

Ah, it means "would you do me a favor?" in French.

Do you? I just arrived, so I'm trying to familiarize myself with the Academy, and the area around it. What do you think every new person should see?

Ohhhh!

[Kronk scratches his head, then crosses his arms.]

Never heard it spoken before, even though I know folks teach it here.

Oooh! Well, when it come to the basics, you've gotta stop by the dining hall. You've gotta know where you're gonna eat. Do you know which dorm you're in yet?

[Permavideo] sirenspell January 28 2012, 01:29:40 UTC
I can't argue with that! I probably should have looked into that sooner. I do know my dorm, though - I'm already settled in. It pays to travel light, yes?

[She offers a little shrug - she didn't have tons of things to pack anyway, but oh well! - and a grin.]
