went to slimes on saturday nice people and i had a great night, but (steve excepted) djs sort the music out - theres no synergy between the floors and a vast amount of the night was spent playing music not many people liked e.g. 20-30 on the dancefloor. i'd read a few posts on various forums saying things had gone downhill but put it down to people ( Read more... )

IMHO the top floor (which has always been my preference) is getting a little tedious at times with the non stop onslaught of noise. Now I like my noise (in fact you'll rarely see me dancing to anything lighter) but seven hours of it can be a bit much.

When I first started going to Slimelight the top floor was a more a mixture of different genres (yet all pretty heavy compared to what was being played on the main floor) and a lot more fun for it.

Nice to meet you on Saturday btw.

you to its always nice to meet people that are into the music - i know what you mean about upstairs, a lot of the music was very minimalist sort of industrial techno istead of noise so it gets very hard to maintain interest unless your realy going for it on the dancefloor IMO they should have somone playing hard electro and paulfreindly noise (powderpussy, combichrist, tactikal sect etc.)upstairs when they're playing the dodgy goth downstairs it would add a little synergy to the night

Yep, I agree. That kind of set up would certainly hold my attention for longer and prevent my already short attention span from wandering too much. The odd hour set of classic crossover (FLA, Ministry etc.) would not go amiss either.

yeah, we did get about 15min of old stuff after the bands, including front242 welcome to paradise which is one of my alltime favourates but it would have been nice to have some more classic stuff

The reason is was probably naff is because dj_steve_rbn was away. I saw that on his LJ that apparently A LOT of people had been emailing him with complaints.

I have to be honest, i'm not too impressed with any of the DJ's at that place anymore (as you say, with the exception of Steve, who is an incredible DJ). The top and middle floor seems like it is in a state of confusion. I would personally have the middle floor devoted to Futurepop, Synthpop, EBM, and Electro with about an hour of goth. The reason I say that is because the night just dramatically drops to a low when the goth follows up. The top floor would be a crossover (much like Mike said, hourly) with Noize, Industrial, Techno and Psy-Trance. I mean we've planned out -drop-zone- extremely well with the rooms that we have. Surely, Slimes being the biggest and best club should have really sorted this out by now ( ... )

i agree theres been an awful lot of non-constructive slagging off but i realy hope that everyone involved in slimelite takes heed of the comments i cirtainly hope the ones we've made are at least constructive

Normally I would post something like this in the Slimelight Community, but what with the amount of stuck-up, shitty comments i'd get back, it's just not worth my time.

I take it back. Steve's post was left on the 10th. Doh! Ah well. That shows how much attention I pay to LJ!

Steve and Nils were both djing on sat--- and the sets they did were cool, though they both did try to do a bit more crossover stuff... alot of people (including Nils) had come straight up from the new model army gig.. so I think he was trying to accomodate for a wider taste. Their sets are seemingly getting shoved around to stupid times of the night... so that djs that play non-ebmy stuff are getting peak times on the decks ( ... )

yeah i know i had a good night on sat(see top of the thread) but i was shocked at the music - i don't belive its a lack of tallent, it seems to be a lack of planning and comunicaton - between the floors and between the djs. its all stuff that could be sorted out by just sitting down and rejigging the timeing of the sets

Bring back the days of old thats what I say!:

Top Floor (as in the VERY top) - Goth and 80's
Top Floor - Industrial and Old Skool EBM/Electro
Middle Floor - EBM, Synthpop & Electro

God! I'm showing my age!

i don't think they need three floors all the time coz most weeks it prolly would be too quiet but it would be nice if they could arange for a dj playing paulcore and oldschool ebm/industrial to be on upstairs while the middle floor is playing trad stuff

Well they have done that 2 or 3 times before. That top floor used to be Industrial and EBM. I loooooathe Noize! It's seriously damaging that club IMHO. I think Synthetic Culture have got a it spot on. Which is whay I prefer SC to Slimes nowadays (and you know how I used to swear by Slimes!).
