I know it's cutting it close, but I wanted to squeak a post in by the end of March. I turned 45 on the 14th, which seemed to sneak up on me too

To me, getting started is almost harder than keeping it going. Like I said, I wanted to start with something that wasn't too monumental so I couldn't have any excuses not to continue. I set the hourly alarm on my cell phone so when it goes off, I stop whatever I'm doing and drop to the floor. I don't care if people give me funny looks.
Now I just wish I could get back into posting in my journal regularly ...or at least check in on my old friends more often! I figured if I posted pics of myself, it would force me to update at least once a week. Obviously, I didn't follow through since a month ago.
John: Good luck on the fittness goals. I lost 15 lbs in the fall, and it's awesome! Now it's staying on maintenance that's seems even harder than the diet was! P.
15 lbs is a nice amount. Congrats! I never even thought about weighing myself until just now. According to the Health Charts that I've seen on the 'net, I'm not just overweight, I'm considered obese. In order for me to be a "healthy" weight, at 6'6" I'm supposed to weigh something like 215 pounds. I think that's how much I weighed in college when I was a beanpole at 6'5"!
Way to go! You're right - your core strength is improving and I actually think there's a slight difference in your arms/upper body. I started going to a lift class twice a week and while I don't really see a difference on the scale yet, I do know I'm getting stronger and my tolerance for lifting has increased substantially.
I don't even bother weighing myself. For the past few years, I've stayed about 265 lbs. It doesn't fluctuate much from season to season. When I'm not active, I get fatter, and when I am active, I put on muscle weight.
Yes, it's a weight lifting class. We use a combination of a barbell, hand weights, step, and floor mat. The instructor leads us through exercises set to music and by the time the hour class is finished, she has encouraged/challenged us in a full upper and lower body workout with weights - the goal being to get to muscle failure. It's an awesome class and I love it even when I hate it! LOL It's primarily women, but there are men who come too which is cool (except the time I found myself next to a guy and was doing squats with my rear facing him! *groan of embarrassment*)

What's a lift class? Is it weightlifting?
