Losing things always sucks, for starters. Nothing worse than trying to put it all back together, whatever it may be.
I'd be interested to know what the source you're using for your remark on Atavism is, I was reading a little into it and it seemed like the word has been used in a number of different ways, though chiefly concerned with throwback ideas.
If I've got the general idea, what makes you an atavist? I always viewed conservative as a person/group that is unwilling to make radical change and approaches an issue with a more cautious and traditional approach. Whereas what I'm getting out of atavist is the idea to completely throwback to older ideas (sometimes for no real good reason).
Anyways, Merry Christmas and I know the "big city" feeling. I don't spend a lot of time in them these days either.
