Re. forced to pay 50 yuan. What?? That's a lot of money ok! Especially when you think about it in RMB.
I hope you got lots of photos of your ancestral home or what's left. I am glad you got to make the trip and find out about your family history.
The Soong sisters didn't just use their intellect, but also their beauty and social and political connections to get to where they were. Fascinating women.
Yeah, exactly. Plus the way that they were forcing themselves on all males over 21, it felt a bit like prostitution (and subsequently, extortion). :|
I did take photos. My brother didn't go for the trip so it was deemed necessary to let him know how things looked like over there. What I really want to find out about and haven't though, is how far my ancestry can be traced. There is this book that we brought back that lists everyone in the bloodline, what their names are, their birthdates and their country of residence. My father is considered part of the 13th generation, while I'm the 14th.
There were illustrations of various characters in the distinctive chinese art style seen in numerous ancient artifacts too. Most seem to be chinese officials, magistrates or judges. There was even a scholar holding a scroll and a brush. My mother tells me the bloodline could have started from the Song Dynasty, but we're still not sure about that. Need to find out more about them...
