So! Karina and I were just discussing national animals. She wasn't sure about India's national animal, and I was all like, "Well, if I was India, I would make the elephant my national animal." I love tigers - they're my favorite animal - but the elephant is just as distinctive, and it's useful, but it's still impressive and powerful as heck

Awesome post! However the Canadian Horse is a unique and useful breed. They have a pair in Colonial Williamsburg pulling coachloads of tourists around. I wouldn't be surprised if they pulled the state coach when QE2 visited in 2007 (scurries off to photo archives).

Wow, Bolivia's is the llama! And Algeria is the fennec fox.

And the Isle of Manx is actually the Manx cat.

Finally, Moldova has the auroch, which is unfortunately extinct (but I suppose Moldova itself was long extinct; they only became a country again in the early 90s).
