Funny Coincidence

Last night, for the first time, I baked a type of cookie called a Whoopee pie. Apparently common in Maine (whence comes my dad), these are, as he describes them, sort of like cream filling between two chocolate hamburger buns. (A bit like Oreo Cakesters, I think.) My recipe also calls for frosting the top cookie with chocolate buttercream ( Read more... )

My favorite "bought" whoopie pies are sold at the Clam Box in Ipswich, MA, but are from New Hampshire: http://www.pieguy.com/whoopiepies.html

I have a recipe for whoopie pies that includes shredded zucchini, but chocolate is the best.

You can get really good whoopie pies at a place called The Clam Box in Ipswich, Massachusetts, too. In New England we take them seriously: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/621498

In the coincidence dept, I'm going to a conference next month that chooses a charity to benefit with their big auction the last day. I was so pleased to discover that this year's choice was animal related: Pet Orphans of Southern CA.

Haha! Well, I just got the box of Whoopee pies, and it turns out that by "box" they meant "three," because THEY ARE ENORMOUS. I did not realize that Dad's comparison to hamburgers was meant to imply that they are actually the size of hamburgers. :P
