Just to make something clear: we're supposed to hate this version of Willow, right?

Sidenote: you left a "they" out of the Don Juan quote.

Let me know if this unsolicited proofreader thing gets annoying.

No, no, I welcome proofreading. I don't always catch everything when I do.

It's understandable if you do. She's a different creature than the character from the series-which changed pretty often, anyway.

I'm hoping that doesn't remain the case, though.

I don't quite know what to make of this Willow yet, with the leaving Buffy behind for monster crushage and whatnot, but she gets a few bonus points for 'enfrog'.

If this is where things go when they run away from you, keep running. I can't wait to see what happens when you catch them.

Well thanks. I would point, without being too pensively hopeful, to Willow's thought process at the prospect of having to leave Buffy behind.

She's been at this for a year. Something that might come up is that a whole lot may have gone on in Rio that wasn't exactly bright and shiny.

Oh, I figured as much about Rio - from what you've painted of the world, it's not so much about the bright and shiny. People change to fit the situation they're in, and Willow's always been a little bit about doing what she felt was best at the time. No matter how warped her intentions might be or how it might look later.

I get it, I really do - didn't mean to incite any pensive hopefulness or offend. It will be interesting to see whether Faith has something to say about Willow's choice, though, not having been inside her head at the time.

Oh, no, no, no offense taken, nothing like that.

I just wanted to make sure that I'd gotten the presentation more or less right. There have been a couple of times that something I wrote was misinterpreted-or at least interpreted in a way different to how I'd intended.

It happens in writing. Mostly, I don't want anyone to think I'm degrading or bashing the characters.

Here's the line I found most telling:

Adalia was a slayer, but she was far from a good guy.

Take Adalia out of that sentence. Put any slayer in it.

Brazil might burn when the Xander that only mostly survived HNJS has to face that.

And I may be coming at this from a bit heavy of a Xander-fan's perspective, but I still think it applies. I can no longer imagine a Xander that has been through that having to deal with senior year Faith.

Willow may not like it but she seems to have come to deal with it. The younger slayers have (at least in story) so little to deal with these particular outsiders that they don't know how bad it is. Faith and Callie are along for the ride. Buffy is willing to give what may be too much trust to Willow's ability to handle things. Willow can't seem to talk about her doubts to Buffy. I suspect that Xander is willing to get quite a bit more drastic than anyone expects...

Love it.

I'm glad, and you're pretty much spot-on. It's perfectly okay to approach this story as a Xander-fan, particularly since it's the sequel to a Xander-centric story. Most of the readers who would get here can at least get behind the guy.

This story is about the four I've tagged-Buffy, Faith, Willow, and Xander. Obviously, Xander has the most backstory as pertains to this 'verse going into the story, but the others are going to step up as well. There's debris, and there's fallout, and this story is going to be about coping with it.

The intensity of the changes in the characters in this 'verse can be breathtaking. This is one of those times.

Thanks, that means a lot. I think dynamics are the most important thing in any form of fiction, so it's definitely something I try to use when I write.

Sometimes, I fear I go too far, but I like to think "breathtaking" is good.

Interesting seeing Willow in this mindset. She's always been the one eager to fix everything, as much as she can. Now she's...well, very much in a Watcher frame of mind, picking and choosing which battles to fight.

Also starting to see the shape of the central conflict in this arc. The local Slayers have become embroiled in the power politics of the region, something the old Watcher's Council probably worked hard to avoid. Talk about complications!

You're on the right track, but it's a little more complicated than that.
