I got a good email today that related to my guitar.

I emailed Yamaha corp last night asking them for a manufacturing date of my Yamaha SC-800 guitar. I got a reply this afternoon from one of the employees and they said it was made in 1978! This makes my guitar among the first in the model series. Nice...very nice...

Hi there, I have a yamaha sc-800 that I purchased over 30 years ago. It is cherry red (tranparent) and the serial number is 2158. I got it in a small music shop in Canberra, Australia.

Congrats! You are among a small group of people that have heard and own this guitar.

I love the variety of tones and sweet spots you can get on it as well as the flexibility of it acting as a strat or tele with single coils.
