Bits of this and that in the world of fanfiction

A taste of my own medicine:

This weekend I came across an incredible fic.  By "incredible," I mean that not only was I completely engrossed by it, but it has haunted me for the past three days.  I read it again yesterday, and have had to sit on my hands to keep myself from reading it again today. (A battle I'm slowly losing.)  Let me tell you, it ( Read more... )

A tradition requires that when you recommend a fic in such a way, you should add a link too! (All right, I know I've got it by an e-mail, but there is plenty of other teased readers. Of course I'm saying this all just to cover the fact that I'm the karma maker here and now ;)

Fanlib? What the heck is this? Haven't heard of it till now - and it seems to me like a lousy teen site, kind of CosmoGirl! tips with a little fanfiction added. Yuk.

Yay for the careful vendor! I looking forward to see here a report from a date soon! (Strangely enough, I have read today a (religious) book about how to get rid of fear and live with a courage. Your words of rejection being a part of life could be easily one of the quotations there and support my own life lesson very well.)

Everyone else on my f-list has read the fic. I was kinda embarrassed about linking it--it's not my OTP or the fandom I usually play in.

Speaking of, do you need an edited version of it? :D There's at least one chapter you could safely skip and not miss plot.

:)

I think right now I will use it as a carrot on a stick - I won't read it until I will have at least a page of chapter seven.
And than I'll see ;)

Oh, and I think the fanlib scuffle is more about the principle of the matter. Adults like us probably wouldn't be caught dead on the site, but what happens if they stranglehold the market and drive us underground with fears of litigation? It's too Big Brother for me.

Ahh WadeScott,
I followed you to your blog from THAT author's blog, after reading your comment to her. Yes, she's great. And her stories (plural!!) are awesome.
Keep sending her chocolate... we have to get her healthy/strong so she can play more in fandom, real life does take priority.
Did you find the pod/story-casts of her stories at TheQuidditchPitch?
Run, don't walk, there right now!

Of course you posted anonymously. Now we can't conspire.

Damnit.

You really should name and link to the fic--you might have lurkers who look at your LJ, and if this is the fic you emailed me about, I could use a reminder, since IIRC, I was so mind-numbingly frantically OUT OF MY MIND with the Exchange things among others I never read it--or even glanced at it.

I might also remind you - you may have seen a reference to it on my LJ because I was nominated for an award there--that there's a new awards site taking nominations now--and until June 4th--you might want to nominate that fic--and others there under the appropriate cat.

There's a category for Best WIP--I'd put it there. Frankly, in Trek I lobbied heavily for WIPs to NOT be included at all in any awards--a battle I lost for all that Trek rarely had WIPS--in any case they always ran segregated in their own category. After all, how can you judge an unfinished story? Or judge it against completed stories? Many a story with a fine beginning mangles things in the end.

I don't know which category to nominate it under. Hmmm...

And this isn't the one I emailed you about. I don't even remember which one it was that I sent to you, but I do remember that it was Snape-friendly, even if HBP made it AU.
