OMG Update what?

Feb 02, 2006 16:01

I know I've completely slacked off. Please pardon my lack of too many details when it comes to this update. It seems that it just may be easier presented in detail-free form. I will, however, share pictures and whatnot. My life is far easier presented in pictures :)

Back in December, Jessi and I visited Disneyland and I took more pretty pictures. The trip was a quasi-bust due to illness, but what can you do?

So, I've developed a small (This is arguable) infatuation with the no flash/night mode + lights. This means that some photos end up a tidge blurry, but it's tolerable.

But first, me with Mr. Toad. I am not looking my finest, but that's quite alright.

Flower lamp at the Alice in Wonderland ride

Lanterns at the teacups. Again with the lights and stuff ....

My flight to Chicago was less than enjoyable. It seems that I caught the flu while on the 3 hour flight to Kansas City and once I arrived in KC, my flight was delayed an hour and fifteen minutes. I curled up in a ball on the floor and wanted to die ... tried to nap, but to no avail. When I arrived in Chicago, the Orange Line had stopped running for the night, so I had to take a cab home. I finally made it to the apartments at 1am. You better believe I slept the entirety of the next day ... horrible fever, sore throat, sniffles, coughing ... everything. I slowly got better, only to find that Boyfriend had caught my illness and was going to be spending Christmas day in bed. This made me sad ... especially since I wasn't there to take care of him.

On the 27th, I picked him up from the airport and our adventures through Chicago began.
(Note: Some of these pictures were taken from my trip over Thanksgiving, but I never posted them. They're still Christmas themed, and a lot of them were taken where Boyfriend and I returned to see later in December anyways. There was no point in taking another picture if it didn't change. It didn't snow at all while Boyfriend and I were there, so if there's snow, best bet it was from the 1 night it snowed when I was there for Thanksgiving. Pictures taken from then will be denoted with a * just for clarity)

Let's start with the views (or lack thereof)

*

Snow on the edge of the balcony as I look over the Christmas-y themed city.

Christmas themed city, facing south

Clock Tower looking festive

*

Snow on the Cathedral across the street from the apartment.

Cathedral at night (seeing that night mode/no flash + lights theme going on?)

Festive buildings, Northeast side

A personal favorite, the sunset, facing South with a slight Western edge.

During the day, especially in the wintertime and when you're 52 floors up, buildings tend to be ... "erased" due to the clouds. Mind you, I'm from Los Angeles ... buildings over 10 stories high are like .... enormous here.

Example 1

Example 2

Yeah ... The Sears Tower is supposed to be in this picture. Where? I say it was abducted by aliens, but you be the judge. :)

Fireworks on New Year's Night ... right off Lake Michigan, as (blurrily) viewed from the balcony of the apartment.

Ditto.

I visited the Shedd Aquarium twice. Once over Thanksgiving and once with Boyfriend. The following photos are mixed from both trips.

*

Some beautiful angel sculptures that are around town .... these happen to be on the way to the aquarium from the train station.

The exterior of the aquarium really is pretty.

Some sort of big fish. He looked cool ... but fish are hard to take pictures of. Flash is bad for their eyes, since they can't blink (no eyelids) and they move too much for the "no flash" stuff. So a lot of these are going to be animals that aren't fish.

Find the little, brown frog. He's in there, I promise (hint: Look in the middle of the black section ....)

Jellyfish ... the slow motion with the no flash mode = lovely artsy stuff

King crab! ARRRR ..

This photo does not do the pretty fish justice. Whatever.

Prawn? I think ...

Perdy reef fish ... or something. I don't remember, it's been so long!

SEAHORSIE! (Really .. I'm 22 ... not 5 ... )

I have no clue what the hell this thing is, but he's so damn cute that I had to take a picture.

I love snakes. This guy is no exception.

TURTLES! :D

They're fighting. Not ... well ...

Caiman Iguana. These things are bomb-diggity, yo. (or something like that .... )

Quack.

The Mammal Arena ... if you look closely, you can see that it looks like the water in the arena and the water from Lake Michigan are only separated by a glass window.

Belugas! :) They're soooo cute.

PENGUINS! (totally the best part. They're SO cute)

Penguin Primping.

So ... here are pictures from "Around Town". You know .. here and there ...

*

The Bean. Interesting piece of sculpture. Wish I would have thought of a giant piece of reflective metal ....

* More of the Bean

Millenium Park, right next to the Bean.

The view of buildings from right by the Bean.

Buckingham Fountain .... turned off because a fountain in below freezing degree weather is pretty pointless .... but they decorated it for the holidays, so it wasn't a total bust.

*

At Christmastime, Marshall Fields decorates their windows with a theme. This year? Cinderella. :)

Animatronic Prince Charming trying to fit the slipper on ugly stepsister's foot.

Prince Charming. *sigh* :)

*

The river with perdy bridges ...

*

I love this building *sigh* It's just so pretty!

Naked Native American on horseback .... randomly in the middle of an intersection.

Front view.

Another of those angels .... on the median right by the naked Native American.

I just love this building. It's across the street from the apartments. I want to live in it.

The city decorates everything for Christmas. It really is pretty.

Including random baby evergreens.

Sisters with Mr. Lincoln.

Even Crate and Barrel on Michigan Ave. is in the spirit!

Just a really pretty walkway ... it's around the park-ish area by the Bean, Buckingham Fountain, etc.

Concert Hall

Concert Hall detail ... see the names of famous composers??

Wrigley Field sign ... taken in sepia mode for optimal "vintage-y" look.

Mr. Lion all festive-d up for the holiday, guarding the Art Conservatory.

The Water Tower on Michigan Ave.

The water tower, as seen through a pretty light canopy.

Who's that cute guy in front of the lights? Hmmm ....

Boyfriend inside my favorite little pub.

Really, this guy needs to quit being in all my pictures, who does he think he is!? ;)

*

Sibilings in the snow. They aren't cold.

But I am.

All families need a Christmas Ficus.

All in all? Christmas was wonderful. Boyfriend had a great time, and even fell in love with the CTA (public transportation). At one point I was convinced he was going to mount one of the subway trains. We've talked about moving there together, but we'll see how that goes.

This entry is long enough as it is ... so it shall be continued ASAP (and I really should get back to work ... posting in journals is not in my job description).
I just felt bad for not posting anytime recently.
