So this long after your move, what's your verdict on comparing Las Cruces to San Diego?
I'm particularly curious because I live in a desert city right now and a move to San Diego might be in the cards, might not, but I'm worried it'll be all scary military and conservative. And on fire half the time. I'd love your opinion!
So far, San Diego still wins out for me. Las Cruces is a pretty interesting place to live. I find that the people that live here are mostly really nice, but also very conservative. I find the military and conservative stuff is even more intense here in LC than I did in SD. The city is the second largest in NM, but there is not a lot going on. They need to liven up their downtown area a bit, but so far haven't zoned it in a way that attracts people or creates a place for folks to hang out at night.
San Diego is conservative, but there are lots of places there that are progressive. The two things I don't miss much are the CA focus on appearances, not that I paid much attention to it, and the traffic.
I prefer San Diego over Phoenix and Las Cruces. Tucson, I love, but I can't really compare SD and Tucson...it's like comparing an apple and banana, imo.
