I will watch the snippets and make comments tomorrow when the Rock Band isn't quite so loud, but seriously? Mandatory preschool with a standardized curriculum and testing for 4 year-old kids? My niece is a very bright and intuitive 5 year old who missed the cut-off for kindergarten by 10 days so she'll be almost 6 when she goes to "real" school. She's in a half day preschool right now and the first few months of that were awful rough for her. Heck, I don't think some kids are ready for kindergarten yet at 7. Why can't kids be kids for at least a little while?
It is so scary--by age 7 my daughter has almost completely disappeared from home. School goes until 4pm, then there's homework, which takes all evening and most of one weekend day, and special projects, which eat up a few hours of another weekend day. Add to it gymnastics and Girl Scouts (voluntary, I know), and she pretty much just sleeps at home. Forget playdates--that's what school's for, I've been told. School doesn't let out until July 1, and starts up again in late August. I'm thinking of getting rid of all the toys and craft supplies littering the house--they're not home to use them anyway. And to start all this at age 3 or 4?
That is definitely a big fear of mine - I have coworkers who spend their weekends doing ridiculous art projects for their kindergartners homework. I would have absolutely no patience for that nonsense.
