15. "Diet Mountain Dew (Oxford Remix)," Lana del Rey, 2011.

This was the song of my first solo drive to Indiana. I was making such good time. I wasn't tired, I wasn't hungry, and I'd only had to stop maybe twice for gas and bathroom breaks. The roads weren't exceptionally busy, even though it was Labor Day weekend, maybe cause I'd left ( Read more... )

Thank you! Amazingly, I was completely fine, despite driving into oncoming traffic AND totaling my car. There was just enough of a gap in the traffic that I managed not to hit anyone, for which I will forever be grateful. I was shaking really hard from the adrenaline, but I was totally calm otherwise and relatively fine, other than some soreness the next day.

I've never been much of a Lana del Rey fan and I'm not usually into remixes either, but I must say I already liked this song a few seconds in.

I think I missed the posts about the accident (if, that is, you poster about it) due to my inactivity on LJ the past couple of months. I hope you're doing okay now! Sounds like a really serious accident :\.

Lana del Rey is one of those artists whom everyone assumes I'll like, but I just can't quite get into. I do like a few of her songs (like the original mix of this one), but for the most part, she's a little too warbly for my taste.

And thank you! My car was totaled, but amazingly, I didn't hit anyone (or anything) else and I came out of it relatively unscathed. The insurance company made everything pretty stressful, but things have settled down now.

because other people might be like, "Hey, check out that chick talking to herself.
Hahaha, I've totally had people point and laugh when I'm singing along/dancing in the car :P But if I'm in a good enough mood to be doing that, I usually don't care. Let me make their day!

I'm glad you were able to tie that good feeling to this song so that it boosts you up despite how that drive ultimately ended!

My boyfriend does it openly, doesn't care if anyone notices or not. I admire his abandon, but I just can't. When I was little, I remember seeing a comedian talk about how crazy people look singing along to the radio when they're alone in their cars and that's all I can think of now when I'm in that situation.

And yes! It's a strange thing to tie this song (or maybe any song) to, but in spite of everything that came between, those two moments made me happy. I'll never hear that song the same again.

Isn't it? I think the Wilmington airport may actually be even a little bit smaller. :^\
