In early January of 2012, Heather was simply a fairly new coworker from another department. She seemed nice enough when we interacted for a few minutes at the end of the day, small-talking lightly as we exchanged paperwork. Her predecessor--a girl with an awful personality but a pretty face who left my ( Read more... )

Aww, this is a sweet story (: I haven't made a strong friendship through Hunger Games specifically, but through other fandoms (particularly Harry Potter) but it is such a good way to initially connect with people who ultimately become really important friends. Even if the subject material isn't necessary the most touchy-feely :P

I really like Lorde's song, too; I think you're right that it's got much more of a Hunger Games feel to it, tense, edgy and badass. (I also may or may not be dork enough to have made my own random Hunger Games playlist of songs that aren't officially affiliated but remind me of the series >.<).

Thank you! :)

Also, making your own Hunger Games soundtrack is pretty much awesome and I would love to see the playlist!

I read the Hunger Games trilogy like you did, in a matter of days. I have not seen any of the movies though, because the first one was shot in shaky cam, and I get motion sickness when I try to watch movies like that.

I can understand that. I remember noticing the shaky camera a little at the beginning, but I get used to it almost immediately. This happens with a lot of low-budget movies I watch, too. It's strange, because I'll rewatch something like that again after a long while and think, "Wow, how did I not notice how incredibly handheld this is?" and five minutes later, I'm blind to it again.

The sequels all had a different director from the first one and the cameras are much steadier, should you ever consider checking them out.

Wow, why is making friends in adulthood so hard??? Seems like every time I get one (and that's rare), they move away.

This was such a lovely telling of your story together - those tentative first steps, being brave and taking chances... I totally felt all of that. That's so very much what it's like to forge a friendship. I hope you do manage to make that movie date next year.

Same here. Even the midst of a strong friendship, I'll find myself wondering how and when it will slip away, because it always does. I'm sure change like that is relatively normal, but I wouldn't mind having a few close adult friends who stuck around.

And thanks so much! :)

Aww, that's a really sweet story :) I wish that I could have an adult best friend, the way that you always did when you were at school, I just find it so hard to really create close friendships as an adult, everyone mostly seems so busy with their own lives and families

Thank you. :) And same here, it's so much more difficult as an adult! As a kid, I guess I was less self-conscious about it. Now I always worry that I'm bugging people, inviting myself along, that sort of thing. It was so much easier when you just happened to start talking during class and suddenly, you were BFFs. My childhood friends to whom I'm still the closest were mostly met in that easy-going manner and I miss the simplicity of it.
