Hey, *big hugs* I would have reacted the same way about your coworker. What a douche. :(
I am so sorry to hear about your cat, but I can say, this CAN get better. My cat had several blockages too and ended up having to get perineal urethrostomy surgery. He is 100% fine now. If you have ANY questions about this process ask me, I am a freakin' expert by now lol. It might be pricey for you in the long run but the good news is you already went through the hardest part, hospitalizing him for the initial blockage. You saved his life!! Cats can die in 24 hours of a blockage. You are an awesome cat momma :P He will be fine. <3333
The first thing I thought of when the vet started explaining the cat's problem was, "Is he going to get lady bits, like Hercule?" Then I started wondering how/if this would affect him psychologically, if he'd still try to get it on with blankets and stuff. I guess it never bothered him before that they didn't have the required parts, so maybe it wouldn't bother him if he doesn't, either.
I knew the blockage could pose a health risk, but I had no idea it was such a short timeframe. My boyfriend was actually asleep when the cat began acting strangely, but his mom noticed as she was about to leave for work and woke him up. I'm so thankful, because my boyfriend can sleep through anything and I'm certain the cat would have been in terrible pain for at least five more hours, until I came home for lunch.
Thanks for all the support! I'm glad Hercule seems to be fully recovered. Hopefully, Cous will be soon, too.
I was worried about the same thing, that he may act differently and just know his manparts are gone. I can assure you, cats really don't know. (And the day he came back from the hospital, he was humping my sheep haha). Cats aren't like people, they don't care about all the social crap we do regarding their genitalia. He can pee okay, I'm sure that's all that concerns him regarding his penis (since he's neutered and can't get a kitty pregnant, anyway) <3
His mom is awesome, that's great she was aware something was off.
Couscous will be fine <3 Just keep an eye on him, now that you know he's prone to blockage, it may reoccur if diet doesn't fix it. My cat is on Royal Canin Urinary SO now, expensive as hell, but it is specially made to help.
Yeah, the vet told me they'd send home a pamphlet of recommendations on special food for him. I know it's gonna be soooo pricey. But if it keeps this from happening again, it's worth it.
They're also sending us home with some liquid pain meds that I'll basically have to force feed him. This cat ain't about force feeding, so I dread to think how this will go down. Maybe I can get him high on catnip first...
We recently dealt with some health issues my puppy was having. She is 100% better now, but it's so heartbreaking, and frustrating, when they aren't well. They can't tell you what is wrong or what is hurting, leaving you feeling helpless.
It's awful, isn't it? I wasn't home when it started. My boyfriend was asleep and his mom said the cat jumped onto her bed as she was about to leave and began meowing at her really hard, like he was trying to tell her something, which is when she noticed he was moving strangely. If not for that, she would have left, Adam would kept on sleeping, since he can sleep through anything, and the cat would have been miserable for at least five more hours, until I came home for lunch.
And thank you! He's recovering well from his surgery. The vets are going to keep him one more night, so hopefully he'll be back tomorrow.
Good on you for saying something to your coworker! People really do need to know when they're being insensitive or inappropriate, or they never figure it out. I hope the whole thing blows over soon.
So glad you caught Couscous's symptoms quickly! It's scary how fast a cat can go downhill, since they try so hard not to act sick. I hope he's back in your arms soon. It's so awful to have to leave them, even if you know that's where they need to be. What a gorgeous cat.
One thing that sucked was that my coworker was so staunch that I was being unreasonable (and childish and ridiculous and bitchy) that I almost felt like I was, even though I knew I wasn't in the wrong. I've been feeling a bit better at work today, we've basically just been ignoring one another again. Works for me.
And it really is scary how quickly these things come up and turn serious! He was acting totally normal when I left for work maybe an hour before my boyfriend called me, but he was clearly in a lot of pain by the time we got him to the vet. My poor little guy. He should be back tomorrow, after the vets observe him overnight again.
