First off, hello, new people!

More support for my sick, vet-ridden cat, Cosucous:

I am happy to announce that the demands to free Cous were met on Saturday.

My sweet little buddy is home and doing well. He hates his medicine. Every time he wakes up, he seeks out companionship and goes into this frenzy of loud purrs, much louder than usual. I wonder if he has nightmares where he's back at the vet clinic.

The vet said Cousy never made a sound. He didn't fidget with his sore spots or fight against the cone. Once they unhooked his IV, he didn't eat, drink, or use the litter box. He didn't move at all, in fact, just sat there, glaring at everyone.

I think I know how that would look.

That's his standard expression when he's in the cat carrier. He's very sweet and mild, doesn't bite or scratch, has never hissed or growled. But when Cous is mad at you, he leaves you in no doubt.

In other news, I think my cold is simmering down finally. My mom is doing better. And my coworker who was being a jerk last week apologized sincerely...I think, anyway.

"I don't like it when you're mad at me," he said. "I like it much better when we're friends." I wasn't even acting angry with him, I was just ignoring him when work-related communication wasn't necessary. It wasn't to make a point, because I didn't assume he'd even notice. It was simply the easiest way to deal with him. But I guess it bothered him. Whatever the case, it's nice to have that awkwardness gone.

Yesterday, it was in the lower 70s out (around 22C). I hated the thought of sitting around inside all day, so Adam and I did the thing we do sometimes, just got in my car and drove until a destination presented itself. Yesterday's destination ended up being Sunset Beach.

Only weirdos like us would leave one beach to go to another, an hour away. On a day too cold for beaching.

When we arrived, Adam realized he hadn't brought his jacket and, of course, it was colder and windier on the shore. So we didn't stick around for long, but the drive was nice. We wandered around Little River and Myrtle Beach for a while as the sky clouded over. For whatever reason, it was nice. It's always nice.

We parked near this STATE MAINTENANCE ENDS sign, so, of course, my first thought was, What's beyond there? I thought I spied a footpath. I love footpaths, even ones that just lead around a yard. And stepping stones and roads past where STATE MAINTENANCE ENDS.

I was wrong. It was almost immediately a steep bank overlooking Bull Creek with a marsh beyond. I can't imagine why the state didn't see fit to maintain it.

Sunset Beach has lengthy beach access boardwalks. Some pass over marshy areas or beach sand. Some lead through wooded areas. Some take you up and down stairs.

This one was lined with beachgrass and sand dunes.
