I've been away from LJ, mostly because in my downtime, I was rereading the Anne of Green Gables books. They've always been among my favorites and I love them more than ever now. Yay Anne of Green Gables!
I never would have noticed the cake thing until you pointed it out, but had I been there I would have promptly eaten that piece to repair the issue. Problem solved!

And, yes! I found that I love and appreciate the Anne books more than ever. I hate when people refer to them as children's novels. I read them when I was a kid and so much in them was lost on me.
Haha, the pieces were that hard, chalky version of "edible" that so many cake decorations turn out to be! I know, because Heather did try to eat one. The two children there did ask if they could have them, but it turned out later that they'd just wiped the frosting off of them and were carrying them around, cradling them. Uh...huh...

Just curious, are you referring to the more recent Anne of Green Gables TV series or the '80s series? I haven't seen any of the former. I did enjoy the latter when I was younger, although the second one, in particular, departed a bit from the books. The sets and costumes were great, though, and the actors really embodied their characters. The books are very interesting in that they start on sweet, wholesome farm life in a small town and end with the world being ripped about during WWI. It was certainly not what I was expecting when I first read it as a child, but I'm even more struck by it now.
I was so happy with how the cake came out, especially considering a local grocery store chain's bakery was responsible for it. It was delicious, too! Most of the guests asked me where I'd gotten it.

I was standing over it with the knife, staring down at it, almost cutting in, pausing, almost cutting in again. Someone asked what I was doing and I said, "It's like putting the first footprint in fresh snow. It just feels wrong!"
