I've heard of people with Post-Tramatic Stress (PTS)doing similiar things. Have you checked into that? You have stress from your childhood and more recently from people you worked with and your illnesses. It might be worth looking into.

Yep...how did you know except for my lousy spelling of traumatic?

Hadn't even noticed the spelling. It was more to do with the tone. It just sounded like you... :)

I did that once, actually. I guess I was having a nightmare and my girlfriend tried to wake me, and I thought I was under attack and punched her right in the face. Then I saw it was her, apologized, and went back to sleep. I don't remember any of this, you understand. I was never fully awake, but I did feel guilty about it. She was scared for a couple of days, but it never happened again and eventually she started laughing about it. It just happens sometimes.
My Aunt Jo once had a nightmare where a man was chasing her through the park. When he caught her she took a swing at him, and in real life (she's a big strong woman) she put her fist through the headboard of her bed and on through the wall. My uncle used to joke about how glad he was that he worked nights.

I know it happens sometimes, but what's concerned me is that it's happening rather a lot when it never used to happen at all. What I've been doing is much more like what your aunt did (with less force) than what you did though. I'm not startled at all. I'm just punching out at things in my dream and hitting whatever might be in the way of my hands in reality.

I doubt there's any chance that I'll cause real injury so it's not a *huge* deal, but I don't like it very much and want to get to the bottom of why it's started in the past several months. It could just be stress and other psychological factors or medication or... Who knows? I have to see my doctor next week anyway so I'll probably ask what she thinks then and not worry about it in the meantime. :o)
