Title: Aftermath
Author: Kitty

Disclaimer: David and Jason do not belong to me, saddly. As far as I know, the depicted events are fictional.
Summary: The eldest member of their trio has been eliminated. This is the aftermath in which David and Jason comfort eachother. Takes place in the early morning hours after the Top 8 Elimination Night
Author's Notes: 1016 words. I wrote this in double English on Friday because I really didn't feel like watching "The Story of English" for two hours. Hope you enjoy it, it's gone slightly off topic by the end.

David woke from his sleep, feeling slightly dazed. It was still fairly dark, it couldn't be much later than 3 a.m. He couldn't even remember when he'd fallen asleep, all he remembered was crying. Yes, he'd been crying very hard. But why?

The was a soft rustle from a few feet away, and David sat up in bed. "Michael?"

He was met by silence for a moment, and when his roommate finally answered, there was hesitance in his voice. "No, David. It's Jason."

"Oh." He fell silent for a few seconds, then, "Why are you still awake?"

Jason had moved into a thin streak of moonlight, and David saw him shrug. "Couldn't sleep."

"Why not?". He patted the empty space on his mattress.

"Pretty hard to tune out your crying," Jason replied softly, he wasn't making blame, just answering the question. He sat down at the end of David's bed, facing him.

"Sorry," he glanced down. "Why.. why was I crying? I ..don't remember."

More hesitance from Jason. He sighed quietly, "I'm scared of setting you off again," he finally admitted.

"That bad?", he asked, to which Jason only nodded. David held out his arms to Jason, "C'mere."

Jason obliged, and crawled across the bed, and into David's waiting arms.

David breathed in deep, absorbing Jason's scent. "Mmm," he purred. He placed his hand softly on Jason's cheek, looking down into those gorgeous baby blues, "Please tell me."

Jason sighed, contemplating his options.

"Jase?"

"Michael's gone," he finally replied, his voice low, almost choked.

David couldn't find words to speak as the previous night flooded back to him. He remembered Ryan reading the results, oh how he'd hated Ryan at that moment, he still refused to forgive him.

He remembered crying into Michael's chest, and Michael telling him it was okay, telling him that it would be the summer very soon.

And, then, of course, he remembered watching Michael walk out the door. He hadn't wanted to let him go, but Jason had pulled him away, and Michael had left, promising to call them soon.

Momentarily, he became aware that he was shaking. After another moment, he realized that it was not, in fact, him that was shaking. It was Jason. He didn't remember Jason showing the slightest sign of emotion earlier, he'd remained quiet, composed, but he hadn't cried. But the boy in his arms right now, because in many ways he was still a boy, was crying silently, his entire body shaking uncontrollably.

David hugged him tighter, not sure what to say. He couldn't assure him that everything would be okay, because he could not yet make himself believe that. He kissed Jason's forehead softly. "I'm still here."

He thought Jason might have nodded, and mumbled, "I know", but he couldn't be sure.

"We're still together." He was no longer sure if he was talking to Jason, or himself. Both, perhaps. Yes, both of them, because they were two now, they had to stay together.

Jason mumbled something else, and David distinctly heard the word "you" at the end of the sentence.

He looked down at him again, and reached out to wipe away Jason's tears. He could feel his own tears trickling down his own cheeks, now.

"I'm sorry," Jason whimpered.

"You shouldn't be." He kissed Jason's forehead again. "It's okay to cry."

"I know." He tilted his head up, brushing his lips against David's. The kiss was salty, a few tears having rolled onto his lips.

David's arms tightened around him, and he sighed softly. "What happens now, Jase? What happens when a trio becomes two?"

Jason closed his eyes, "We wait for the summer when we can be three again."

"But it's so far away."

"Life moves quickly around here, you know that." Jason wiped away the last of his tears. "You'll barely noticed the time passing."

"I hope you're right." David released Jason for a moment so that he could lay. He pulled Jason down next to him, wrapping his arms around him again. He pressed his lips roughly, needingly, to Jason's.

Jason kissed him back, just as much need in his kiss. He ran his toung over David's bottom lip, and felt his mouth open to allow him entrance. David tasted sweet, but Jason already knew that.

David's toung met Jason's, and the two fought for dominance. David's eyes closed, and he let one of his hands slide up under Jason's shirt, lightly caressing his chest.

Jason moaned softly at David's touch, it felt so good to be with him right now. To know that, even in their sorrow, they could have something beautiful. He pressed his body closer to David's, fisting his hands into David's hair, and deepening the kiss in the process.

As Jason's body pressed nearer to his, David let out a soft gasp. He finally broke the kiss, struggling to catch his breath. He pressed his forehead to Jason's, still panting slightly.

Jason untangled one of his hands from David's hair, and placed it on his cheek, before kissing him again. "You're so beautiful, David," he murmured, pushing David's hair away from his face.

He smiled a small smile, "Not as beautiful as you." Jason made a sound of disbelief, and David pressed further. "Really, Jason. You're like some kind of angel. I could stare into your eyes for all of eternity."

"I'm not sure you have the attention span for that," Jason chuckled, before kissing David again.

David kissed him back, closing his eyes again, and finally removed his hands from under Jason's shirt. He broke the kiss, and wrapped his arms around Jason, before rolling over onto his back. Jason curled up by him, resting his head on David's chest.

"Goodnight, my angel," David whispered.
