Disclaimer: Not real. I do not own these men. Nor do I own the copyrights to "Stay" by Sugarland.
Author's Note: So I was listening to my iPod in Chem while working on another fic [what's wrong with that situation? lol], and "Stay" came on, and I was just like, "daaayum. That would make a great Johnstro or Mavid fic!" I decided on Johnstro. Here it is, bbs. <3 Hope you like it. :]

I've been sitting here staring at the clock on the wall
And I've been laying here praying, praying she won't call
It's just another call from home
And you'll get it and be gone
And I'll be crying

And I'll be begging you, baby
Beg you not to leave
But I'll be left here waiting
With my Heart on my sleeve
Oh, for the next time we'll be here
Seems like a million years
And I think I'm dying

Jason glances at the glaring red numbers on his digital clock. It's 11:30, so it's a miracle that Stacey hasn't called yet. Which means she will soon. He sighs sadly, shifting onto his other side, and burries his face into Michael's chest.

"I love you, Michael," he whispers, grazing his lips over his lover's skin. Michael's arms tighten around his waist, and he kisses the sensitive skin between Jason's neck and shoulder.

"I love you, too, baby." He slides one of his hands up to pet Jason's hair. "So fucking much."

It is at the moment that the obnoxiously loud vibrations of Michael's phone against the wood of the nightstand breaks the moment. Jason closes his eyes, holding back a whine as Michael rolls over to pick it up.

"Hey, baby," he says into the phone, "Yeah. I lost track of time. I'm sorry. I left the studio about five minutes ago. I'll be home soon."

Michael's lies are so fluid, so believable, that Jason could cry. He wonders how many times Michael has done the same to him. Fed him believable lies just to keep him strung along. Jason's eyelids flutter as Michael's fingertips trace shapes against his back.

"You don't have to wait up, babe. It's late." He glances down at Jason, and smiles sadly, "I love you, too, Stacey." He hangs up the cell phone, setting it back on the nightstand, then gets up, gathering his clothes and pulling them back on.

Jason sits up, kneeling in the middle of the bed, just watching Michael silently.

What do I have to do to make you see
She can't love you like me

Why don't you stay
I'm down on my knees
I'm so tired of being lonely
Don't I give you what you need
When she calls you to go
There is one thing you should know
We don't have to live this way
Baby, why don't you stay

When Michael finishes dressing, and has slipped his cellphone back into his pocket, he leans across the bed, pressing his lips softly to Jason's, then pulls back, but Jason catches him by the wrist.

His eyes are desperate, his bottom lip is trembling. "Stay," he begs quietly, his voice breaking on the single syllabol. "Please."

Michael feels his heart sinking, "Jason, baby, you know I can't."
"Why not?", he asks, close to tears, "Why not, Michael?" His eyes search Michael's face, desperately looking for an answer. "She can't love you like I can. Please, Michael."

Michael tries to remove Jason's hand from his wrist, but has no success. "I just can't, Jason." He smiles sadly, "I know, Jason, I know."

You keep telling me, baby
There will come a time
When you will leave her arms
And forever be in mine
But I don't think that's the truth
And I don't like being used and I'm tired of waiting
It's too much pain to have to bare
To love a man you have to share

Why don't you stay
I'm down on my knees
I'm so tired of being lonely
Don't I give you what you need
When she calls you to go
There is one thing you should know
We don't have to live this way
Baby, why don't you stay

"Yes you can," Jason replies childishly, "You can. Please Michael."
Michael kisses him again, "Jason, don't do this. Not tonight." He frowns, "I told you. Someday."

"You always say that." He withdraws his hand from Michael's wrist, wrapping his arms around himself, his head bowing down when he can no longer hold back his tears.

"Jason..", he sits down next to the crying boy, "Jason, baby, don't cry." He gently rubs the younger man's back. "Shh."

"I love you, Michael. P-please stay with me. I want to be with you." He looks up at Michael, only to see him glancing at the clock.
"I love you, too, Jason. But I really have to go." He kisses Jason's forehead, then stands.

Jason reaches out to him again, "Michael, please."

Michael tugs his arm out of Jason's grasp, and the boy falls across the bed, before curling around himself. With his heart breaking inside his chest, Michael makes his way to the door. As he's leaving, he hears Jason's last desperate question.

"Don't I give you what you need?"

Michael pauses once he's on the other side of the closed door, listening as Jason breaks into tortured sobs. He can feel tears burning at his own eyes, but he blinks them away, crossing the living room until he reaches the front door. He grabs his car keys off the ledge, and leaves, locking the door behind him.

I can't take it any longer
But my will is getting stronger
And I think I know just what I have to do
I can't waste another minute
After all that I've put in it
I've given you my best
Why does she get the best of you
So next time you find you wanna leave her bed for mine

Why don't you stay
I'm up off my knees
I'm so tired of being lonely
You can't give me what I need
When she begs you not to go
There is one thing you should know
I don't have to live this way
Baby, why don't you stay, yeah

It's been two days. Two days and Michael hasn't called, or stopped by, or even texted him. Two days since he last left the house, two days since he'd bothered to get dressed, or eat anything substantial. Two days since his heart had finally been broken. It's never this bad. Michael's always back the next day.

Jason has slowly come to realize one thing, and it breaks his heart even more. He can't do this anymore. He shouldn't have to do this anymore. When Michael finally calls him, part way into the third day, he doesn't answer until the last ring. Something he's never done.

"Hello?", his realizes how rough his voice sounds, and he coughs once, trying to clear his throat.

"Busy tonight, baby?"

Jason doesn't reply for a long moment. You can do this he tells himself. "M..Michael.. I.. I can't do this.. anymore."

"Don't be silly, Jason."

"I'm not!", he defends, "I'm serious, Michael. I love you, but I can't live like this anymore." His voice quivers slightly, "You have to chose." And I know you won't chose me he thinks, his heart sinking lower in his chest.

"Jason.. Baby," Michael's voice is steady, but fluid, "I love you, Jase. Bare with me just a little bit longer. I promise it'll all be okay, someday."

"You've been feeding me that line for six months, Michael." He leans back against the wall, steadying himself as his tears start to blur his vision.

"It takes time, Jason."

"No it doesn't."

"Jason.."

"I can't do this anymore, Michael. I feel like I'm dying, or something."

"Jason.. you can still do this."

"No. I can't Michael," his voice has taken on an angry edge, now, but the misery is still clear. "Go back to Stacey, Michael. Go kiss your wife, and make a family. Lord knows I can't give you that."

He wasn't expecting it at all, and when he hears the dial tone ringing against his ear, he is stunned. The phone slowly slips from his hand, crashing to the floor, and he slides down the wall, wrapping his arms around his legs and burying his face in his knees, sobbing.

It's another day and a half before there's a knock at his door. He's just getting out of the shower, the most productive thing he's done since Michael left his home 4 nights ago, so he wraps his bathrobe tightly around himself, and goes to answer the door.

He can see Michael's form through the window on the door, and he swallows the lump building up in his throat. He closes his eyes, counting down, trying to calm himself, then opens his eyes, and then the door.

"What do you want, Michael?"

Michael just stares at him for a long moment, taking in the bags under Jason's eyes, the slight pallor of his skin, and the fact that he is dripping wet, and mostly naked. He shivers, stepping into the house.

Jason closes the door behind him. "I thought I told you I was done with this."
"No. You told me I had to chose. And I did." He meets Jason's eyes slowly, locking the boy's gaze with his own.

"You didn't have to come tell me," he tears his gaze away, walking around Michael to retreat further into the house, "I know better than to hang on."

"Jason.. I filed for a divorce yesterday." He blurts out, and Jason freezes, his breath is stolen from his lungs, and his eyes widen. Did Michael just say what he thought he said? Because.. Jason had never expected that. "About an hour after we got off the phone. I.. I couldn't stand the thought of losing you. I had to do it. I realized that.. I don't need Stacey, but.. but I can't live without you."

Jason turns around, slowly, his eyes glazed over with tears, and steps towards Michael, who pulls him shamelessly into his arms, pressing their lips together, kissing Jason deeply.

Michael finally breaks the kiss, and Jason rests his head against the older man's shoulder. Michael's hands slide up to stroke Jason's hair. "I'm staying, Jason. I'm staying for good."

I'm off to bed now, bbs. Hope you liked it. :D
