Summary: What happens when Bobby finds out that Fiona's moved on?
Notes: Alex, Kiri & I were doing a drabble thing that involved picking the pairing and genre out of a cup, and I ended up with "Declan/Drew; darkfic". This is what I came up with. Currently a one-shot, but I'm considering adding another chapter.
How had they ended up here? This isn't a situation that anyone wakes up expecting to end up in. No one had expected Bobby to show up in Ontario - especially not with a gun. But he had, and he'd managed to corner Fiona and Adam, along with Declan, in an empty classroom; it was purely a fluke that Drew had happened across them. The threats and slurs he'd been making towards Adam had made Drew's blood boil, and he'd stepped right into the trouble instead of getting help. He wasn't sure he'd ever forgive himself for letting his anger get the best of him there.
Somewhere in the resulting struggle, Bobby's gun had ended up pressed to Drew's head, and it was as if time had stood still. Adam pleaded with him to leave Drew out of this, and meanwhile Declan comforted Fiona as her anxiety got the best of her. Taking a few steps forward, Adam tried not to flinch as Bobby turned the gun on him.
"Please... just let my br-" His words were cut off by the sound milliseconds before he felt the ripping pain of the bullet entering his chest. Voices mixed and images blurred and he stumbled back, falling to his knees as he brought his hand up to cover the wound. In a matter of seconds, he was gone - faced down and unmoving on the linoleum floor.
Declan tried to hold Fiona back, but she slipped out of his grip too easily, flinging herself at Bobby as she cried and shouted at him. The struggle for the gun was brief, and Fiona collapsed back into Drew's arms, fading fast. Both he and Declan were too stunned to notice Bobby turning the gun on himself, and neither of them expected the third shot to ring out. Time seemed to drag forever as the room was swarmed with staff and school security, as Declan and Drew were forcibly led away to the office. Neither of them spoke - they didn't have the words to express the pain they were going through.
It wasn't until later that evening, as their families congregated at the hospital, waiting on news about Fiona that Drew separated from his parents and sought out Declan. Neither of them was sure how to explain it, but there was something comforting about the lingering embrace that they shared.
