I really enjoyed reading this because this video was so unexpected to me, I couldn't necessarily tell where it was going. There are some really good M/M vids but a lot of times it feels predictable, like 2x03 scene here, followed by 2x12, then that one manip everybody does of the pilot etc, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, nor surprisingly considering the amount of scenes there are to work with, but still. I really liked the greyscale sequences, you definitely look at them a different way when they're presented next to each other but facing outwards. Also Merlin's voiceover is perfection. I found 2:11-12 and 2:40-42 to be particularly striking, though I think 3:57-3:59 really got me

That's completely understandable, the song itself is really quite ambiguous so there were just so many ways it could go. I always tend to try and put a lot of thought (lol can you tell? XD) into my videos because you're right, they can definitely feel a little predictable sometimes. I think their relationship gives us so much to think about and consider and play around with (like you mentioned, all those parallels!!!); but I'm finding the general trend is for videos to be filled to the brim with effects and are all under two minutes long which breaks my heart! :(
And before *I* write a novel on that subject, I'm really thrilled you enjoyed reading this! It's funny you say that about LJ, because this account is pretty much brand new, and I figured since tumblr was down I might as well try to "reboot" my LJ and get back into the swing of things here ;)
I've only ever attempted to make a fanvid once a couple years ago, but you're making me want to try again now.
I'm aghast on tumblr btw, (and I don't necessarily mean you specifically) but I'll see people post these long fandomy things on tumblr and my default response every single time is but, but - this sort of post belongs on LJ! I find tumblr so awkward to try and have any sort of conversation, plus I don't think the format necessarily lends itself for multiple people to have deep discussions about .. all the M/M parallels for example, or whatever. So I wish people would take advantage of the fact that LJ and tumblr can work really well together depending on whatever your fandom need actually is. If I didn't know better from running the FY I would assume that M/M isn't actually all that popular based off it's LJ presence, which is frustrating because like you said, there is so much to consider and discuss and refrain from writing novels about. (;
Making fanvids are always fun! They can be really difficult and annoying at times, but I find they're worth the effort in the end. Definitely try again if you've got the time! :)
AND HELLO! <3 It's so nice to see someone else I actually know around here from tumblr, haha. I totally get what you mean, though. Tumblr's good for the random flailing, gorgeous spams and videos and things like that, but with text/discussion posts it's definitely harder -- especially once people start reblogging each other, it can get very long very quickly and it just becomes so hard to keep track sometimes

Oh my god, this is awesome. I loved the vid something wicked, but seeing all your thoughts is really awesome. 'Cause it was like as a vidder that I was impressed (as well as a shipper of course :D). I think it is brilliant how you drew so many visual parallels to underline the character parallels. And I really like your ending with Morgana watching Merlin, I'm always wishing the show would focus itself more on their dichotomy.
Thank you so much! I always loved reading video commentaries, and as a vidder I'm always intrigued by the process other people go through to create a video -- and especially for a video like this, a commentary just seemed natural, really ;)
It's a shame Merlin is a family show, sometimes -- I feel like their characterisations and the psychology of these characters would probably be explored much more in depth if it weren't for the restraints of that family show genre, but *shrugs*!
Where is this video?tanglefireApril 15 2016, 12:48:50 UTC
Hey, I've been looking for this video but can't find it on youtube anymore! Please tell me it's still somewhere online? It was one of my favourite fanvids ever and I really want to watch it again!
