What am I watching these days?

1) Justified
I’m currently two-thirds of the way through the season one boxed set. It’s kind of weird seeing Venus Van Damme from Sons of Anarchy as a guy.

But seriously, Raylan Givens is awesome. Just his uber-polite no-bullshit badassery. I can understand his popularity.

2) Castle
Castle is at its best when it doesn’t take itself too seriously, and the last couple of episodes have been super-fun. First we had the Totally-Not-Star-Trek one (where someone is murdered at a sci-fi con, and there are costumes, and outrageous ham actors, and a rather worrying glimpse of Alexis in a bikini, because damn it, she‘s a kid), and then there was the documentary one, in which everyone hammed it up. Except Beckett, because she is the straight woman, and her humour consists of taking the mickey out of everybody else.

3) Sons of Anarchy
Okay, I’m pretty certain this show has lost it. They don’t have the balls to kill off anyone. I’m mostly watching for Dayton Callie.

Also, Kurt Sutter? Writing a scene in which Maggie Siff is forced to hold you while you jerk off? Not cool, man. Not cool at all.

4) The Walking Dead
I think the most recent episode may have been the weakest of the season so far, and it was still better than 75 per cent of season two. And also has more zombie kills than pretty much the entirety of season two, but that seems to be their per-episode mission statement for this season.

My only real complaints are that Andrea has completely lost all her badassery and gone back to just being a lousy judge of character; and the kind of dodgy racial stuff. Like, after two seasons of zero character development, T-Dog gets killed off. Then they introduce three new black male characters, then kill off two of them as well.

Plus, it turns out that Rick was actually Axe Cop all along. Which is nice.

(If Rick died in the next episode, the show could carry on nicely with Daryl and Maggie trying to keep everyone alive until Michonne joins them)

5) Parks and Recreation
Is so awesome.

6) Continuum
This is a bit of a weird one. I mean, I started watching expecting it to be really bad, and it’s turned out to be pretty good. Characters are non-stupid, there’s some decent action, and Rachel Nichols is really pretty. So I’m now slightly unhappy about the upcoming wait for season two.

7) Arrow
Still enjoyable tosh. I’m glad Diggle hasn’t quit or died yet, and I hope this state of affairs continues. I’d also like more scenes with Ollie and his sister trying to fix each other, and more of Colin Salmon: Corporate Badass, please.
