weekly word count

So this is my word count report for the week of Feb 23 thru Maruch 1:

For Lucidity, my "A" story, I wrote 4,767 words. For my untitled "B" story I wrote 2,356 words, though not all of those will actually end up in the story. But I still wrote them. So that brings my word count for the week to... (drumroll please...) 7123 words in total. Go me!

I was totally inspired to do so thanks to a podcast called "Packing Heat," which is put out by the erotica author Jordan Castillo Price:

In her episode titled "Slow and Steady" she outlines a three-step method she uses for meeting her writing goals, which I've been following for the past couple of weeks and I've gotta say, it really is helping. Part of the secret is to keep track of the number of words you write every day, which is something I'd gotten slack about doing. I find writing down my word count is really motivating because it provides an objective measure that shows that yes, I *am* making progress (even though it doesn't always feel that way!)

Anyway, I totally recommend JCP's podcast. It's what inspired me to start writing again after a few years hiatus, and she has lots of great practical suggestions to help you keep going. :)
