Kevin pushes the gas some more and reaches 80, he feels like flying, the windows are open and he feels the air in his face, it hits him like knives. He is late, last time he checked he had 5 missing calls and 4 text messages, Scotty is going to be so mad at him. Kevin opens his mouth to take a deep breath and ends up almost chocking from the amount of air that entered from the opened window, he coughs a bit but manages to control himself without crushing the car. He can't believe how much his life changed in a matter of hours. the night before, Scotty and him went to bed early, they were too excited to actually go to bed but they couldn't stopped pacing back and forth and as Michelle said, it was getting creepy, so they said their goodbyes and she left. Kevin and Scotty cleaned the table and did the dishes, brushed their teeth and changed into their pjs - old tshirt for Kevin and tank top for Scotty and boxers - they were still shaking when they finally met in bed and put their arms around each other, Kevin's ear was on Scotty's chest and he could hear his heartbeat, it was so loud he didn't really need to have his head pressed against him, probably their neighbors could hear it too. Scotty's eyes were closed and the grin on his face was only growing wider, his hands were caressing Kevin slowly, there was so much love in his touch Kevin only gave himself to his husband's arms and nested there for what seemed hours. Finally, Scotty kissed the top of his head which led to Kevin to look up and kiss his lips, which then led to some heavy make out and ended up with Kevin grasping the sheets and Scotty collapsing on top of him only to start all over again once they had caught their breath again.
And now, it was all gone, all their happiness, all their hopes, all the dreams just shattered. Kevin never thought a simple phone call could destroy someone's life. he pushes the gas once more and prays it was all a mistake and their baby is ok, it is just not fair, all doctors say babies are safe after passing the first trimester. What dark forces are conspiring against them? what have they done to deserve this? Michelle looked so healthy when she met them for dinner the night before to share the good news, they even started talking about names, even Michelle had jumped in and proposed a few. And now a doctor calls to say they have to go to the hospital as soon as possible because Michelle was found in her kitchen, unconscious and covered in blood? She had done everything she was told to do. She started eating healthy food, she didn't take the stairs again, she had plenty of sleep, she took all her vitamins... everything.
At least the streets are empty, he pushes the gas for the 10th time and passes by another red light, there is no one around and he is desperate to make it to the hospital. it seems like he has ben driving for hours and he still not even near.
Little does he know, the streets are indeed full of cars, the red light he just passed is the same red light he passed 2 hours ago but he didn't succeed, he was hit by a SUV and lies now in a gourney, EMTs stopped working on him and his face is now covered by a sheet. Scotty was just called and is not throwing up by the ambulance. Nora and the rest of the Walkers are on their way and should be there any minute.
Kevin doesn't know, and never wiil. He is too preocupied trying to get the the hospital to see Michelle and cry on Scotty's shoulder for the death of their unborn baby.
