OUCH! That is excellent... and chilling. I love Peter's concern, and that Neal doesn't quite understand it. And (so much!) that Neal's constitutionally incapable of telling the whole story. Awesome!

Wow! Amazing backstory.

his brief and busy time with Wilkes: the id forgeries, the counterfeit money, the laundering scheme, the increase in violent coercion, and the escalation into armed robbery.

This explains so much - how and why Neal got involved with Wilkes.

And then how Neal finally turned on Wilkes and how he managed to get out of it in one piece. Of course, from the FBI's pov it was just 'you used to run around with him'.
