At least that event wasn't as bad as the underwater one. I'm still surprised how none of the books are damaged.

Poland...-san was it? You said you would show me a letter a while ago. Do you think I can take a look at that now?

Also Ivanova-san, I would like to listen about the aliens you were talking about whenever you're free.

Okay, so like, I guess you can meet me at my room or whatever? Fifth floor, room 69.

I'll be there in a few minutes.

[ Conan flips the communicator off and goes up a few flights of stairs to the fifth floor. He knocks the door ]

[When Poland opens the door, he's certainly dressed like he's from the 15th century. He's feeling a little skittish, because he's only talked to Conan a couple of times and that makes him sort of almost a stranger, which is hard to deal with in person, but deal with it he does.]

Hey! Um, like, Conan, right?

[ Conan was dressed in simple polo shirt and jeans. When he first saw Poland, he was taken back a bit, but quickly regains his calm. Craning his neck up (as always) he gave a childish smile. ]

Yeah! Nice to meet you, Poland-san.

Yeah, like, you too!

[He holds the door open for him.]

[ he goes into Poland's room, looking around it without looking too nosy. Just a curious child ]

[Poland keeps the place fabulous and Liet keeps it tidy, so it's really quite nice. The room itself is mostly done in stone, but tapestries and rugs add color and keep the warmth in. Also helpful for that purpose are the many blankets piled on the large bed. The furniture is in darkly polished wood, each piece carefully matched.]

[Poland wanders to a desk, unlocking a drawer in it and removing first a handful of small items, then a thin wooden partition, then the letter. Their room got vandalized, once, and they wanted to keep the letter well protected just in case afterwards.]

Okay, here we go! You know, I like, never asked if you can read Polish or Lithuanian, but...

[Holds it out, the carefully-preserved wax seals facing up.]

[ Conan still couldn't figure out the mystery of how the room changes in just overnight (his had turned into his room back in his original house) but the room definitely reflected the feeling. Especially the part with stone walls. (He hadn't been in a room with stone walls that much. And usually it was for a crime scene too... )

As Poland took out the letter, Conan took out white gloves from his back pocket. You know, just in case. White gloves was always necessary when looking at evidence. ]

Thank you. [ he takes the letter, and carefully opens the letter ]

I can't really read Polish or Lithuanian. [ but he reviewed some 1400 Poland-Lithuania Kingdom history for the past few weeks so he could at least recognize names, dates, insignias and such.

Conan unfolds the letter and begins carefully examining the letter, noticing that, at least the paper looked authentic. (He would have needed to run tests on it to be sure but hey, can't ask for too much) ]

[There are actually two separate letters, in distinct handwriting. One's in Polish, one's in Lithuanian; the first has the seals of Poland and (the late, female) King Jadwiga, and the second has Jogaila's personal seal and the seal of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania.]

Um, mine's from Her Late Majesty Jadwiga, and this one's from His Majesty Władysław II Jagiełło. Her Majesty's, at least. I kinda can't read that much Lithuanian. I can tell you what they say, if you want? I mean, you'd kinda have to take my word or Liet's for it, but...

[ he takes a look at each letter, recognizing the names and correctly matching the right seal in his mind. It seemed authentic enough. The paper, the ink, the utensil it seemed to be written by, the seals... ]

Can you? That'll be great.

[I don't think we ever decided on the exact text of the letters, but yeah, Poland gives Conan a translation of Jadwiga's. It's consistent with what history says of her, a heartfelt letter of encouragement from a devout, strong-willed, clever young woman to the nation she worked closely with from her childhood to her death.]

[There's a tender affection on Poland's face as he reads, brushing her fingertips over the ink a couple of times. Jadwiga was like a sister to him, almost. They even married at the same time, to Liet and Jogaila. He misses her, but that's really just part of living as long as a nation.]

[ Conan intently listens to Poland's translation of the letter, while sneaking glimpses of Poland in the duration as well. He listened and watched closely until Poland finished.

From what Conan could see, Poland didn't seem to have lied. Of course, Poland may be a holder of a perfect poker face, but talking to him so far, he didn't seem to be. There didn't seem to be a reason for him to be lying anyway, and if it was just to pull Conan and other people's leg, this prank seemed to be much too elaborate. No, Poland seemed to be telling truth.

And however improbably it seemed, it was the truth. There were personification of countries ]

Thank you, Poland-san.

[Yeah, no. Poland is a laughably terrible liar. He wouldn't be able to pull this off if it weren't true.]

[He gives Conan a bright smile, perhaps to try and cover up the emotional vulnerability from a moment ago.]

Yeah, no prob!

[ Conan gently folds back up the pieces of paper and puts them back in the envelope. Once he's done with that, he hands the letter back to Poland. ]

I believe you.
