Oh 2005...
I started the year in Rockford with my best friend, and still my best friend. Someone who I realize will never be out of my life...it's just not possible.
The next few months were spent with my always interesting friends. It was great always having something to do...be it driving around aimlessly listening to music or sledding on plastic exploding picnic tables. It's great to know that those people are still my friends.
I soon got to know one of the greatest people in the world that I could ever have the opportunity to be close to. And maybe the only person in the world that could put up with my shit. That engulfed my entire life for the next 10 months. Regardless of how unfortunate the results ended up being or the MANY obstacles we ran into face first, I have no regrets. For that time in my life, it was perfect. And the most memorable event in my life. During this time it also hit me that I had these few friends that were always around since freshman year and I had never realized how good of friend they were. And are.
The musical was the most fun I had within school walls. It was awesome seeing my friends' faces everyday (especially when they looked ridiculous)...not much hope for that this year, but we'll see.
Turning seventeen was not glamorous. This age is...awkward...and stationary. Much like being 16.
Prom was an effing blast, seeing my best friends graduate was bitter sweet, and ending school was a little sad knowing that I wouldn't being seeing the same faces that had been comforting in the last 3 years of high school. It felt like senior year I was going to be the freshmen I had never considered myself to be. But I was excited for my friends' future, so I was happy.
Summer was not absolutely spectacular. But I did do everything I wanted at least once...saw everyone I wanted to. It was just simply unforgettable.
School started with nothing to look forward to. I don't know why I felt that way because I never realized I had made so many acquaintances throughout the years that I actually enjoy talking to. The year also brought me closer to someone I had hardly even known, which is one of the best things that I have going for me. I never expected to make a best friend. Nor did I expect to lose one.
Fall brought on the biggest changes of my life. I went to college twice, with people who are forever branded as my good friends, people to rely on (By the way I'm coming back soon). I found out where I want to be but not what I want to do. I realized who my best friends are and they will always be there for me. I learned that I needed to make changes to make life better. Even if they're hard.
I recently met a much unexpected good friend who just...knows me. I'm grateful for her.
I went to a lot of fucking great shows--even though I missed the Decemberists 3 times.
This year was a year of changes and realizations. I learned more about myself than I expected. I learned who I am as an individual. Not as a unit of friends, or a couple, or as an appearance. I just found how to define myself as my own being. I also learned how to let go of the things I had always believed were the best for me. And I finally discovered how to take care of myself, for the most part, which I couldn't be more proud of. I've grown, a lot.
I might be bored with life now...but I still believe that life is wonderful. I entered the New Year with no grudges for maybe the first time, with the best fucking friends I’ve ever had who continue to astound me, and a great family. I know that these next few months will be very challenging but it’ll be so fucking worth it. That’s my only resolution…to make it all worth it.
